I played Guitar Hero on PS2 and stopped on world tour on the PS3. I was really excited when it first came out since it was unique (next to all those beatmania series that are in Japan) After awhile It became Dance, Dance Revolution for your fingers. There is really nothing all that great about mashing buttons with your hand to a fake crowd screaming for your fake guitar skills. At the end of the day you don’t know how to play a real guitar. I am sure that some guys think that bragging about how awesome they are at the game is a lot cooler then shredding on a real guitar. i also find it hilarious that people who “claim” to play instruments on the PSN and forums get riled up when a Rockband or Guitar Hero conversation starts. its like they feel the need to let the world know they play real instruments as a way to feel superior. Unfortunately, these people are probably the biggest basement dwellers online. i find Rockband to be more fun even if the concept is the same. i never understood why? In Guitar Hero, the improvements with every release seam minimal, unless there adding another instrument and even than there following Rockbands footsteps. I have more fun on Singstar because when you have 2-8 friends its funny watching and listening to your friends mess up and get nervous when the Eyetoy suddenly starts recording you.

To go for a completely new look after the nth iteration of the GH series seems a little odd. Maybe that shows how watered down the product is becoming (all the old boxarts are almost identical) and the marketers are trying to catch people’s attention that a new title is on the shelf.

I just wish they would quite watering down the franchise. It doesn’t seem like it would be all that hard to just release a 50 song DLC for $30.
