While the PSPgo and its removal of the UMD drive is considered a godsend to developers and consumers alike, European retail outlets aren’t the biggest fans of the PSPgo since they aren’t able to receive any profit from software sales for the device.
A solution to this dilemma would be wider support of PSN Cards (which aren’t even available in Europe) for retailers. Hopefully this problem is remedied before the launch of the PSP Go this Fall. With the bigger push on digital distribution, it’s more than likely that SCEE will roll out the European distribution of PSN cards in order to retain retail support.

I have been a PS3 owner since about November last year and have more than got my money worth out of the purchase. recently I have bought a couple of used games on eBay and in a local game store to try out, to have a change of pace etc from the COD and KillZone addiction that I have.
The idea of a portable devcie has really got under my skin and I am constantly looking at the PSP and the downloads on PSN for PSP.
While this download service is useful and convenient, I still think it is flawed. If the games aren’t priced low enough then I don’t see the device being used for many games at all due to the cost. You won’t be able to buy 2nd hand games or sell on games once completed. Though I can understand a plus side from the developers and publishers perspective, this will make those gamers who are on the fence even less likely to buy.
I will buy a new game at full ticket price, knowing that if i don’t like it I can move it on pretty quickly for a good proportion of the amount I have paid for it.
Will PSPGO or PSN have a rental service? Will Demos be available for all games?
I for one like the whole PSPGO package, but this point is one that I can’t ignore.
One thing some people ignore about digital distribution is this…
If the game is digital, you can play multiplayer easier. The size is negligible at worst. If someone doesn’t have a gig (which is what this thing takes up) then they have other much LARGER problems. The great thing is though remember this. A Digital Distrobution game can be used on up to 5 total units. So if you upgrade to the Go and keep your old unit, you can keep it for multiplayer rounds. ESPECIALLY for a game like Patapon 2. This is especially good for family members. Of course you will run out of uses on those things if you upgrade 2 or more PSPs every year or get replacements. Of course if you’re buying more than 1 new PSP EVERY year… then you aren’t hurting for cash and more than 5 installations kinda means that they deserve the money.
Is digital distrobution the best? No. Is it the worst? No. But it has it’s pros and cons and CAN be better than digital IF properly applied.
It’s stupid to go with a download service. If I’m a retailer there is no incentive for me to carry the PSPGo without the game sales. From a retail point of view, you don’t make that much on the unit itself compared to the games.
I’m still baffled, Why doesn’t Sony just skip the retailer, advertise on the web & ship the console to you after buying it from the Sony Store.
I can see why the PS3 would be in stores like Gamestop & Wal-Mart. When it comes to the PSP Go, everything is digital already why not just have it for purchasing online only? It would save sony some green.
Also I would like to see the prices of PSP games stay low, Digital games should be at least 5-10dollars cheaper due to the fact that developers are not having to put that on UMD so costs are cheaper.
Sony is hoping peripheral sales will ease some of that game sale profit margin.
@nikrel – you can buy PS3′s etc on sony’s web site now, why get rid of retailers? I don’t see the logic in that move.
Just give them some cards Sony
So we don’t have to listen to them cry about it anymore … lmao!
I’m just talking about the PSP Go.
We need PSN Cards “cry, cry”
I think you guys are forgetting something. They did say they were releasing on games digitally and via UMD. Then they also stated that they were going to make some kind of software to transfer UMD games over digitally. There hasn’t been much details about the software but they defiantly talked about it. So you would be still able to buy used games but it will just be a slight hassle to play it on the PSP Go.
So print the cads and send them out problem fixed and lets not forget the Go won’t be her till later this year which is plewnty of time to implrmrnt the cards throughout Europe.
Yeah its such a hassle. Give US PSN CARDS SONY I NEED MW2 maps when they do come out on ps3 (god damn xbox 360 with timed exclusive DLC) < they cant get exclusive DLC anymore wow
