According to court documents, a class action lawsuit has been taken up against Square Enix. Allegedly, Square Enix deceived 100,000 users by not being upfront with their penalties and fees on Final Fantasy XI.

Esther Leong, the Plantiff, claims that Square Enix lied about the monthly fees associated with Final Fantasy XI. Not only that, but Square Enix concealed its monthly fees, penalties for late fees, interest, and several other payment issues during the signing up phase. The parties included in the lawsuit are seeking $5 million dollars for damages.

As of the time of this writing, Square Enix has not commented on the situation.

Good. hopefully SE burn to the ground.

  2. SPD55 Says:

I would not be surprised that these people did not completely read the document since they said that it was “hidden”, so my read is that, it was not on the first page of the user agreement.

I don’t love SE, but I hope these guys lose.

5 mill in damages over what? $15 you paid because you misread a document?
One thing I hate more than companies that overcharge, is idiots that sue for millions in ‘damages’ as if that tiny amount fucked with their life that bad that they require MILLIONS to fix it, no, fuck off.

Every thing is always some one else’s fault. Not mine, it is never my fault. I have no brain, so there fore I can not think, there fore I can not read the fine print, therefore…..blah, blah , blah. you know?

I should sue Bill Gates for my occasional lousy spelling, it is his fault for creating spell checker. There was no warning label on the program that said Warning: the use of spell checker may cause the user to forget how to spell, due to the fact that we are auto correcting all the misspelled words for you, instead of using your head. Side effects include, lost of vision when reading important documents, eyestrain and laziness.

Thats how i see there actions.

as much as i really hate SE right now, i cannot stand people who sue like this for outrages sums of money even more.. I mean seriously, they maybe lost 50 bucks total and they are going to sue for 5 million? only in america…

big lawsuits also serve to send a message to other people who might consider this behavior.
If the penalty is small, people will risk it.

After taxes, lawyers fees, court costs, 100,000 people times 50$, etc It’s not that high of
    a number.

I’ve always thought SE has been pretty upfront with their fees on FFXI. I’ve played it for a long time and never had a payment problem ever. It pretty much tells you what you have to pay and when to pay it.
