It looks like Best Buy really likes rubbing shoulders with Sony, because according to an insider at the Blu-ray Center forums, they’re getting an exclusive new PlayStation 3 bundle. And best of all, it’s perfect for the entire family to enjoy.

this just might sell pretty well. if it came with HD cables and a discount on a decent Sony flat screen, it would sell a shit ton more. but hey, what do i know? i’m not in marketing.

Agreed, they should just include Component and HDMI cables with the box. Just one less thing for PS3 owners to complain about. And seeing as how HDMI cables retail for $10, it wouldn’t cost TOO much on their end.
It would also encourage Blu-ray adoption amongst PS3 owners.

Actually I get my HDMI cables for 5 bucks. People need to just do the basic research before buying hundreds of dollars worth of electronics. No excuses. It would be dumb to bundle it with an HD t.v.
1. It alienates those who have an HD t.v.
2. An HD t.v. isn’t necessary
There are other problems with that but they’re mostly circumstantial at best. Just think about if someone wants a Sanyo T.V. with 30,000 Contrast but they can’t get the bundle… they get left out that way.
Besides Little Big Planet and Wall-E are both good for every age group and all non hardcore republican conservative evangelical political views (They think Wall E is corporate enviro nazi propaganda and they would probably think that SackBoys are confusing gender identities, cross dressing, supporting the gay community even though they don’t understand what a teaparty is and what teabagging means)
Take that last paragraph as a satire.

@sobr – here’s my take on marketing, sony should have not done the psp go, put that 100 million into the ps3, price reduction, r&d etc. then make a proper psp 2 with 2 joysticks for 149.00
sony sells expensive hdmi cables on their website, so there not going to include them in the box anytime soon.

Actually at my Best Buy they are offering a 46 Sony TV and this bundle for $1299, which isn’t bad since the TV is originally $1499. Might have to go pick this up since I’ve been in the market for a new TV, and I could always use another PlayStation 3.

They also have this same bundle bundled with a 46′ flat screen for $1300 at best buy

Most gamers do there research before buying and know before hand what they need, same as Home Audio and Video users using it as a movie player with the benefit of gaming. 1 cable shouldn’t make or break the deal. one way or another you will pay for that HDMI added in the box just like you payed for the those RCA’s. I agree with MakaiOokami basic research is needed. i knew people who thought the PS3 would only work with an HDTV, others thought there HDTV sets wouldn’t work with the PS3 because there HDTV had DVI, component Video, S-video and RCA. ignorant at the fact that Component Video supports 1080p or buy a DVI to HDMI converter.
@John Draisey
You mean RCA and HDMI.. There are a few TVS that don’t support component video. having 2 high definition cables in 1 box would piss off non HDTV users. I have a few friends that dont care about the HD option and use it on a basic non HDTV with RCA’s. Including component Video and HDMI by a landslide HDMI would be chosen because HDMI sets all have 3-4 component video slots.
@MakaiOokami
I have no idea what you do for a living but in college i worked in Bestbuy and in 1 month got promoted to there magnolia high end section making 15$ an hour ,than scouted by a Sony rep assigned to that Bestbuy. My job, was go in every single bestbuy, Magnolia section, Circuit City, Audio Advisers and Sound Advice store and explain the differences in our products and exploit weakness’s in other Brands, this includes Digital Cameras and SLR’s. An example was carrying around a DVD that showed the DLP rainbow effect weakness.
There is a huge difference in a 5$ HDMI cable and 60$, 90$, 150$ and 280$. A cheap cable will work but you also have to take into account the source. A 150$ HDMI cable wont perform the same on a cheap HDTV but it will get an improvement. In that senario buy a cheap Cable. You have to take into account that theres also HDMI 1.1, 1.2 a and b and 1.3a and b. and the new 1.4. Theres a huge increase in every upgrade. 1.3 support 120Hrtz-280Hrtz Tv signals (like the new sets), Auto lip-sync which supports movies and games like Singstar (displaying correctly without tunning in) 1.2 added Super Audio pass threw and DVD Audio support. Audio files like myself can enjoy 7.1 DTS Masters Audio and Dolby TRUEHD with any 1.3 HDMI that includes Deep color and xvYCC support which the PS3 has in case anyone’s off track.
I would recommend anyone with limited income cheap cables just to get it started. The high end market is limited to a select few. If you don’t have the proper set up than you wont get any befits from purchasing upgraded HDMI cords. HDMI 1.3a displays 3D images on 120-280HRtz Tvs your seeing in stores now, thats why there labled as 3D ready.. If Sony doesn’t make a software that can display 3D images on you 1080p, 60Hrtz TV you will not be able to see 3D images on your current set when they add 3D gaming. Im pretty sure someone will complain and say Sony is forcing people to upgrade to 120-280HRTZ TVs.

@pretty much everyone
all i was saying is that since they are bundling it with a Blu-ray movie, it seems like a good idea to also include HDMI cables (nothing fancy) and a DISCOUNT on a decent SONY brand HD TV (which i guess they’ve done. take it or leave it.) to promote the wonderful HD/Blu-ray capabilities of the PS3. if consumers take advantage of the DISCOUNT on a Sony HD TV, that’s more money in Sony’s pocket. it’s what i’d call a win/win situation.

@sobrguy
i know what you mean. i dont think anyones bashing you..
there are 2 types of High Def cords HDMI and component Video.
does that mean they need to include all 3 sets? HDMI,Component and RCA? (to make the non HD users happy) its a waste of money. Sony doesn’t know whats in your living room. the more items added it will increase the cost of the overall item. keep it simple and the buyer chooses based on his set up. its simple to say add an HDMI cord or component Video. what about the people would dont have HDTV sets? or no HDMI and only component Video?
