Fans of free on-demand television and the PlayStation 3’s updated web browser with full-screen Flash support were no doubt disappointed about the recent news involving Hulu and the PS3. Fortunately, Media Mall Technologies has a solution for the free television connoisseur.
The PlayOn Digital Media Server syncs directly with the PS3’s DLNA media server feature with the ability to access networks such as Netflix, ESPN, YouTube, and you guessed it: Hulu. According to Engadget, users can download the PlayOn media server and use it free for 14 days and purchase the free version for half-price during the month of July with the coupon code PLAYON1999.
For the true fans of free online media on the PS3, $19.99 should be a steal for those who use the coupon code before July 31.

$19.99 doesn’t sound very “free” to me. i’d rather deal with adds.

PlayOn is pretty terrific. I’ve been using it since its early beta stages. If you use Netflix and don’t have a 360, you should check it out. They also have some unofficial plug-ins for things like Adult Swim (and even a couple youtube-like porn ones, as I discovered the other day). I swear I don’t work for MediaMall, just like the program.

@sobrguy
Right but what I was getting at was the free video that Hulu offers. That would be like saying the PSN isn’t free to access because you have to buy a PS3 for $400.
It’s just a one-time fee for those who’d rather casually watch TV shows rather than buying them off the PSN Video Store.

I paid $30 (one time fee) and have ZERO regrets. One of the best, “bangs for my buck” that I’ve received in a long time. And now that HULU just blocked the PS3 browser, it just paid off in spades. I didn’t even blink. PlayOn is a great service, highly recommended.

I suggest TVersity. It allows you play Hulu and other ‘premium’ sites if you ‘buy’ their pro package. It’s cheaper than PlayOn… by a good $20.
Yup, it’s free.

Free means a lot of things other than just “No cost.”
Free also means “Free from liscensing” so things like youtube fit that description quite well. I might actually buy Play On this month actually. I’ve been wanting to for a WHILE but… the 40 dollars was just too hard to justify. 20 dollars… shit that’s cheaper than a Gold subscription for a year at a 50 percent discount. If Netflix would just stream better content… that would be cool but then again Hulu and youtube can probably compete when combined together.
