Girl Gamers Up, Says Industry Report
Recently released numbers from the NPD Group indicate that the number of female “console gamers” increased dramatically over the previous year. In the US, female gamers rose 5%, up to 28% overall. The Wii takes much of the credit for that.
NPD analyst Anita Frazier stated:
“Last year was one of the most transformative in history in terms of defining the audience for gaming.
Even with the increased competition from mobile and social network gaming, the console gamer segment added the most new participants to its ranks in the last year.”
There was a four percentage point rise in females among both Heavy Portable and Extreme Gamers. Extreme Gamers are unique in that they play an average of 39 hours a week, which is 10 hours more than the second most dedicated group, the Avid PC Gamers.

Female gamers on the PC anyways used to make up WAY more than 28% of the community.. they would just hide because the way gamers treated a person once they found out she was different down there.. I’ve said this once before and I’ll say it again, the gaming community is awfully immature [even the older gamers] and made up majorly of idiots [no, I am not calling you an idiot] who cannot except anyone who may be different than them no matter which way. It’s sad, I know.
Anyways, on 80% of the teams I was in we had at least 2 female players and as a matter of fact my WoW guild from back in the day had about 15/40 [and we're talking HARDCORE gamers].
Hopefully the gaming world learns to accept that being defeated by a female is no different than being defeated by a male and that girls DO NOT WANT special treatment online, they actually hate it. Then maybe, just maybe we will see the actual and correct figures.

Who comes up with these statistics? They are probably wrong.
39 hours a week isn’t that bad… Some times on days off I’ll put in 10 just then… How else do you get 200 hours in 1 game and play more than 1 game all year? I mean I’ve put in over 200 hours on just Disgaea. I haven’t had it a year… I got it like maybe 3-5 months ago…
I also work but I choose to work part time cause my job sucks too much. Besides they have us stay late anyway and they’ll force us to cut out hours if we go overtime so I work about 32 hours a week.
I played 20 hours on Patapon just last week while on vacation/sick.
Gaming hours add up quick. 5.5 hours a day is hard to sustain though. I wouldn’t have time to go on this site if I didn’t take a break.
