My theory is that music is just a piece of it. PS Cloud is going to be an overall network entertainment platform. They already have games and video from the PS Store, they have PS Home for online stalking/socialization, all that is missing is music and maybe some integration with some 3rd party sites like Facebook, Twitter, Hulu, etc.

But definitely, if Sony wants to compete with the iPhone/iTouch, they need a music download service. It may or may not be called Cloud, or may be a piece of the Cloud, but it’s definitely coming.

I’m going to agree with John on this one. While this type of service would be a great addition to the Playstation brand, there are other, more interesting things you can do with cloud computing. Also, what makes this any different than Pandora?

the only way I would care about this at all is if you could use the streaming music as a custom soundtrack when you’re playing games, which I have to assume is what they are playing. Otherwise this is just another pointless service that we can get on the internet just like EU’s Vidzone.

What if Playstation Cloud was all the rumors than have been out there and this. Wouldn’t that be EPIC. That could very well turn the tide of the console war.

It will be useless for the PSP since you need wi-fi but awesome for PS3 if you can play it in game.

“Cloud” computing uses servers on the internet that stream packets of musice or other related data. Cloud computing will create a new way to recieve your media whether it is music, video or games. It will make UMD, DVD and Blu-Ray discs obsolete. But you have to get more internet access to those who are lower down on the financial ladder so that it can be a viable service because those people will stick to the old methods of doing things and it won’t be cheap for those that currently can afford it since costs will be initially high to subsidize those that can’t afford it.

Lol… They wouldn’t do that… VidZone itself is exactly what you are talking about… A Cloud based Video Streaming service for Music… So why should they make a second version of it? Maybe VidZone itself is PS Cloud and they just wanted to patent VidZone’s technology…

I’m really hoping it is more than this. I have my music on everything else I own already. I wouldn’t need a music service on my PS3 also. I’d rather just have VidZone.

But why PlayStation ‘Cloud?’ This isn’t cloud computing. And didn’t Evan Wells or somebody from Naughty Dog already make mention of PlayStation Cloud being used in Uncharted 2?
