Shijima, the Franchise Producer for MAG, previously stated that MAG’s beta would only be available to Europeans. But thanks to some clarification from an SCEA representative, non-European PS3 owners have reason to be relieved.
Shijima’s original post stated:
“Sorry to pee on your proverbials all, but MAG is likely to be tested by the Beta Trial community only in Europe. If plans change then you’ll be made aware of how you can register, but I just don’t want people getting their hopes up unnecessarily.”
Apparently, the post was worded incorrectly. It was most likely meant to say “tested by the Beta Trial community only, in Europe.” AbigaleSS from the official PlayStation forums had this to say regarding Shijima’s post.
“I just wanted to clear up any misunderstandings about Shijima’s post on the European forum. His comments were directed to his community and it is a mistake to think that the Beta will only be comprised of Europeans. We will be releasing more information on the Beta for MAG in the future, but we can confirm that it will include users from North America.
I know some of you already assumed that but I wanted to make sure you had the official word on it.”
And there you have it. MAG’s beta will be conducted in North America and Europe (so far), and we’ll keep you up to speed on the beta as it draws closer to release.

I’m glad they cleared this up..I remember reading that and felt cheated that they threw us a wtf-card

I know! But I knew Zipper wouldn’t release a game that is pushing the limits of what we all thought possible (256 online players), by beta-testing it with a select group of individuals from one continent.

The MAG beta BETTER BE participated in by the US
Cause Zipper is in the US, so it only makes sense. Actually I live about a 30 minute drive away from Zipper o_O I wonder if I could take a tour of their building or something? I doubt it but that’d be cool. – One can only hope

@saminseattle:
If they only wanted to test it in Japan then what you going to do about it???? From my controller all you could do is sit and cry, if NA gets a beta then I hope that they would choose wisely. I was in the Uncharted Beta and most, not all that got in did very little but post on the PSN about how they hated this or that. They made it feel like they were playing the Demo for the game. I got a beta tag for PSN and filed reports about how the game played and problems I had.
I just hope the testers they get will actually provide good feedback to Zipper so that when the game launches it won’t suffer the malaise that I have seen about other MP games. The first day the lagfest starts and then as time goes on they get it fixed and then things start to get rolling, I hope they can get rolling in day one and not look back…

Sweet!

@DGR8Mc187:
That would be Qore subscribers unless they make a special deal for the Monthly fee. Then I would be upset since recently spending 24.99 to get into Beta’s after waiting a year to see if the Month to Month would be getting betas and they did not. So I ponied up the funds to get into betas since my age would make it hard for me to get into betas other wise…

looking forward to this too, I hope the game feels big, not just crowded.

I’d love to get my hands on this beta.
As a side note: I wonder how much of the development crew at Zipper has been carried over from older SOCOM projects. I think that whoever designed the maps for older SOCOMs should be given many kudos. It seems that those people had a very intuitive feel for the gameplay and the maps they designed fit the game perfectly, giving matches flow and balance. Hopefully, this can also be achieved on a greater scale as well with MAG.
Does anyone know how many maps will this game have?
