@Nickchester

The original author is using information from 2006-2007 just to rile people up.

(Jim Sterling) Judging from the comments in that "article" Everyones under the impression its "new news". Your site is very Bias, its well know, also there is never anything written positive towards the PS3. In case you failed to see the article wasn't towards your site, it was the (article) who the writer has made it clear he dislikes the PS3. Which is fine. It is Bashing because its OLD NEWS made to LOOK NEW. Say i write an article about the 360, than add information thats old and re-enforce it with a new comment (Activisions).... what do i get?

there was no time frame put on that video clip,. People who are ignorant will see it and think "its new". Jim’s comment wouldn’t lead you to believe that that is the direction Sony was heading in. Also, its not listed as an editorial but under Destructoid Exclusive! You might as well drop a NEWS FLASH while your at it. You said it yourself its an opinion.

Nickchester says: Take the blinders off for a second and stop being so defensive. same can be said about you. Yet, i do see your point of view.... except, you fail to see Richards.

And btw ..I am not associated with Playstation Lifestyle......... just a regular commenter.

Cute opinion article, but not surprising coming from an author who writes for a site that's called "PlayStation" LifeStyle. Jim's article was written as an editorial, as an opinion, which happens to be a view that many people in the industry (and gamers) agree with. You don't have to, and that's fine.

But focusing on one story in which you claim "bashes" Sony to conclude that our site is biased towards any one console ignores the other work that we do daily. We're supportive and sometimes critical of all platforms; we have an informed and sometimes highly-opinionated staff. This applies to all publishers, platforms, etc.

Take the blinders off for a second and stop being so defensive. You're not doing yourself any favors here by calling out an entire Web site based off the work one opinion article by one of 10+ plus authors.

I think criticism is good and don't think we're being fanboys. Sony PR needs to watch what they say sometimes, yes, but so do gaming sites. People do gather a lot of information from there and I would be destructoid shows up above us.playstation.com press releases from search engines. So it's important to have articles pointing out the positives as well. It's much easier to criticize historical moves than to praise how far something's come and put faith in a direction something is headed (i.e., the hindsight's 20-20, or in my case, 20-10).

Darkie brought up some good counter-points, as did LazyGamer's article by Nick. I hope discussion like this doesn't turn people away from the site. It's a chance to let everyone speak on something that the staff on this site care deeply about. Really interesting stuff all around!

Jim sterling needs to SHUT THE FUCK UP!

My PS3 cost me 400 3 years ago. Why? because I know how to bargain hunt. 60GB Backwards Compatible. It's not a 60GB anymore. I tossed an over priced 320GB hard drive into that baby from best buy and STILL came out 60 dollars cheaper than a 120GB 360 hard drive.

I had a blu-ray player back when they were 600 fucking dollars. I had a media center, and if I had bought a 360 instead I would have spent anywhere from 90-120 extra dollars on the fucking online ALONE! By the end of a 10 year life cycle that's 300-500 dollars. AND THE PS3 IS TOO EXPENSIVE?!?!?!?!?!

Plus most of the best 360 games either come to PS3, PC or BOTH. Ya the PS3 isn't always the best version but it's usually close enough or better.

My PS Eye is superior to the 360 camera (not the natal but the old P.O.S) but I can also use ANY regular USB camera for things like vid chat.

Furthermore Sony doesn't make money on most things. Headsets for example are universally useable on PCs, mobile phones, and even the PSP GO! when it's released. Everyone should have a blue-tooth, a PSEye Camera, or at the very freakin least a 20 dollar wired headset. It's not so much to ask that people have FREEDOM OF CHOICE! It's not expensive at all. I have talked to someone on his 10 dollar bluetooth headset. If you want to voice chat IT'S NOT THAT EXPENSIVE Geez!

My PS3 works just fine and I've left it on numerous nights consectively. I've known people that left their PS3 on for MONTHS at a time.

My sexy black box is the best thing I've ever spent money on (well PC is arguably the best but I paid 2 times as much for it) I've never had to send in my PS3, I've never had a kink with it that wasn't fixed later on in a firmware update. Even Wiis had a recall where some Wiis wouldn't read Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

I was going to send this cock a P.M. with all this valuable information that he CONVENIENTLY left out, but I couldn't figure out how to. This guy needs to lose his fucking job. Seriously. Someone find out where to email and send him the link to this article. This guy is nothing but another damn creationist who thinks that Evolution is wack just because he doesn't think deeply enough to really understand the shit he criticizes. That's a metaphor by the way in case Jim Sterling rode the short bus over to this thread and happens to be reading it.

I've been asking people for years what games a 360 is worth getting in order to play. 85 percent of the games they mention are coming or are already on the PS3 or PC so fuck that. I have a Wii I have a PC I have a PS3... PCii3 fo life yo!

Well written Rich... It seems to me that beating up Sony is the new fun thing to do with jag offs (whether they support Xbox or not) like this guy. Microsoft has as bad a reputation for making shit as Sony does for supporting new hardware that doesn't take off (mini disk, betamax...etc)
But while Microsoft has made it money by monopolizing the fields they work in (who really uses Linix?) Sony has made their money in making quality products and keeping a faithful following of users.

this is not an opinion... this is history.

Xbox vs PS3 aside, a price cut may raise the sale of the PS3, but it will also be giving in to idol threats from the asses at Activision, who in my opinion can go screw. they (not unlike) Microsoft, were once a huge company, who only seem to be able to flood the market with shitty copies of software they didn't invent in the first place. Can they continue to profit without PS3? maybe, but I for one am willing to find out how profitable they would be.

The Wii is only popular because of the sports game and (maybe) the Mario games
Xbox is only popular because its been around longer and looks cheaper on the price tag

neither of the two are actually better than the PS3 and that is easily proven. I'd pay more for quality any day.

BTW, 3 years with my PS3 and still no RROD = victory

A good number of Jim's arguments are based on articles that you typically find on most gaming sites. Instead of focusing on games, the writers pull in some random quote from someone else's interview with a company exec. They quote a line or two and post it, and some other site sources them. While nothing is inherently wrong with this..its the fact that they take the line out of context, then attempt to interpret the person's lines for the reader.

David Reeves, Kaz Hirai, Jack Tretton, Shane Kim, Aaron Greenburg, Shane Kim are ALL victims in that respect. Not saying they're innocent all the time, but there are a good number of lines that have been taken out of context. you can find some in Jim's argument.

This isn't to pick on Darkie, but the overwhelming majority of gamers don't know the industry, don't know the process of hardware/software design, don't know how to read financial reports, or understand the company/consumer relationship. They also have an aversion to research outside of purchasing decisions. They recognize the potential of a product (PS3), identify a feature available on a competitive product (360), that if available might improve the experience of their own purchase. While this is healthy, their lack of knowledge of the industry results in ridiculous statements, assumptions, and emotions....

"Sony is arrogant, this should have been here. I want it, its not here when I want it, therefore Sony is arrogant and thinks it doesn't need to listen to me. I want , I see Home over there, why is Home here and not my feature!" - there are 1000s of Sony employees working on things concurrently. Much like the phone staff wouldn't be expected to run the engineering dept, so it is that Home devs or Naughty Dog are not responsible for XMB

"Sony is trying to force me to pay $600. I don't want to pay $600, therefore Sony is trying to rip me off. They are arrogant, they think they can charge me anything." - Sony offers a product, buy it or not. An offer is not a demand.

"Manufacturers sell their consoles at a loss, and make profit on the software. Everyone knows that. Its that simple." there's so much assumption, over-simplification of that, its astounding.

"Sony is last place sales-wise. The competition must have a better experience" - Sales =/= Quality

The reputation of these companies exist among the hardcore...actually the subset of the hardcore who actually follow blogs and websites. Even among them, exec's words have no influence as to whether they purchase a product or not. Jim is more annoyed than anything. Gamers also have short memories and are very fickle. Combine that with the lack of knowledge and its easy to develop a reputation rather quickly (see Valve, see Starcraft 2). Name a company that goes out of its way to explain its business strategy (financial reports, outlooks, etc) to consumers who have no idea of the history, implementation, trends, and boundaries of that company, let alone the industry. I mean what do they expect? How much time would it take to educate them on that? Some exec's have even attempted to, and been met with ridicule. Listen to bl400...focus on the games.

Article was good and no point. The comments have been informative also, but flaming will not make you anymore intelligent to those that have a different attitude about the PS3.

There is something to remember that Sony dropped the price last year from $499 to $399 and doubled the HDD size at the same time so they have dropped the price recently. And it was not more than a few weeks later that M$ dropped the price of the Arcade version of the 360, remember the Arcade did not come with a HDD, then M$ upgraded to the NXE and made it difficult to get online with the Arcade with out needing a HDD, they had lots of refurbed 20GB drives sitting in warehouses so the sold them for $20, so that made the entry level 360 at least $319. This is how M$ does things to get more money out of a loss.

Also I wonder how many of those sales figures from M$ include replacements for RRoD, they have been known for fudging the numbers before. When they claimed that Windows was the best selling OS in the 90's they included PC's that were still sitting in warehouses but not sold at retail since they considered an OS sale when the vendor installed the OS on the hardware not when the customer purchased it... So SPINNING is common with M$ numbers...

M$ rushed their console to market since they were also looking at Patent rights rulings so they rushed it out so that they could get the patents validated so that prior use could not be invoked on a console basis with in-game chat and music streaming...
