Madden 10 Demo Gets Significantly Shorter

EA Sports Lead producer Phil Frazier dropped some pretty unfortunate news regarding the public demo for Madden 10.

Gamers who preorder through GameStop will get access to an exclusive demo, which releases July 23rd. This demo includes 5 minute quarters, allowing for an ample playthrough time of 20 minutes.

Players who didn’t preorder through the nationwide chain would get access to the public demo, come July 30th. Unfortunately, Frazier recently announced that this public demo would only have 1 minute quarters. Yup, that’s right, a whopping four minutes of gameplay. Even the Heavenly Sword demo did better than that.

Why they thought having a gimped public demo was a good idea is beyond us. Madden 2010 is hitting stores shelves August 14th.

I don’t mean to sound ignorant, but it’s f’ing Madden. Do you really even NEED a demo? It’s more or less the same game you played in 2001, not some revolutionary new concept. It sells millions and millions of copies to people that don’t even go online, so gimping a demo they won’t even download isn’t half the issue the internet is making it out to be.

  3. I guess they think if you have 20 minutes and 2 teams then you won’t buy it because you can just play that over and over!!!
But that’d be stupid if they thought so, and they’d be morons, but funny nonetheless.

people would still buy it if they had 20min and 2 teams, because people want to do the single player carrers and play on their fav stadiums and with their fav team. But TimPV3 is right Madden is the same every year anyone who is going to get it, is someone who gets it every year and doesnt care about demos they are gettign it no matter what.

  5. i agree with TimPV3.. it is Madden, its the same game its been the last 10 years..

but at the same time, i don’t agree with the thinking of gimping the public demo, the people who may not be sold on your game..

i said the same thing when they first came out with the details. who the fuck needs a madden demo? you either buy it or you dont lol.

@ TimPV3 – I disagree with Madden being the same game since 2001, maybe they were up until last year but when I first played 2009 I thought it felt and looked like a completely different game. What I want from this years version is accurate AI. Every single year there is one part of the game that is much harder than the others and one that is much easier. Last year I thought it was near impossible to sack the QB, they better change it this year.

I do however agree that a longer demo really isn’t necessary. I already pre-ordered the game anticipating some good changes in gameplay, but from EA directly because they gave me a birthday coupon so I won’t get the GameStop demo. I just want to play the 4 minute demo to get a taste of what it will be like this year.

I gave up on Madden a long time ago, of course it was during the nexgen right after I notice that the awesome yearly upgrades were just like the lastest PS2 innovations of Madden by EA. Uninspired and pretty much the same games the year before with the lamest of additions. How about I just buy one of your lame ducks that I hate the least and every year u just put a roster and event update for sale on PSN/XBL. That way instead of getting no sale out me the Ex-Madden fan, you couid still atleast get 5.99 out of me yearly and we both happy and wont even have rent ur new game and then go nuts like those guys in the Gamefly commercials.
