Speaking at the Brighton Develop Conference, Sony Europe developer services boss Kish Hirani talked about the motion controller that was unveiled at this year’s E3 and how Sony is progressing with the technology.
“It can track true 3D, where ever I move it will fully track on every axis.
“We’re not getting any lag, which we had with the camera-based stuff on PS3 before. It is very quick and responsive.”
Adding, he stated:
“There’s a whole spectrum of things you can do with this controller.
“It picks up all the pitch and movement. It’s precise and responsive – the sphere on [the front] is what the controleller is tracking – it uses the full RGB spectrum for the colours.”
Although a firm release date for the motion controller has not been given, Sony has stated they are shooting for a Spring 2010 time frame.

Sony is light years ahead of Project Natal! This has been in development since the PS2 and development versions of the PS3. Since I have seen some PS2 Eye Toy Games that tracked your movement to play. Even some PSN apps for the EyeToy do the same by letting you use your body to create photos or even manipulate fish in an Aquarium.
Natal is just starting to catch up and they did it by purchasing some PC development company and taking there work and modifying it for the X-Bot…
i want to see the applications for this before I get excited about it. The Wii has great promise. But, for hard core gamers, its a dud
Cool stuff !
I hate that Sony comes w/ an idea that is always placed a whole year away. I just hope that the hype isn’t gonna die out by the time it’s out.
Other than that, I love you Sony! lol
Someone should explain RGB… I think it means Red Green Blue, but… Yellow is a primary colour not Green…
Warhawk_TUA if the hype does die, they’ll ressurect it again when a face melting motion controller game comes out to cock slap neigh sayers in the FACE!
@spd55
I couldn’t agree more with you, have you played mesmerize with the ps3 ist cool.
@all
Did you guys know that microsoft didn’t create the natal tech, they bought out a company who created it. Also sony came up with the facial capture tech before ms, they showed it off at gdc 2008 as a tech demo for fps games.
