Battlefield 1943 has made quite a name for itself, these past few weeks. Gamers worldwide are loving the latest entry into the Battlefield series. So much so, that since the game’s initial release on July 8th, for both the PSN and XBL, a reported 600,000 copies have been sold. These figures make it the fastest day one and week one download-only game for both systems.
“We are honoured by the reception that the game has received so far,” says Gordon Van Dyke, producer of the game.
“Watching and participating in this non-stop multiplayer action has been a real treat for us and we can’t believe how fast our fans reached 43 million kills. We can now truly say that we have set a new standard for what can be done in the downloadable games category and gamers recognize the endless value that Battlefield 1943 provides for just $15.”
In an effort to spark competition and playtime, two days after release EA began the Coral Sea challenge, which pitted the players for the PS3 and 360 versions against each other, and see which platform could attain 43 million kills first. The winning platform received the Coral Sea map and an “Air Superiority game mode”. It took 360 owners only 5 days to achieve that high mark, while PS3 players took 8 days.

I had a feeling this would happen.
The Coral Sea Map competition was not a real competition, maybe between fan-boy clubs but not at EA. The Map is available to both systems, it was just that the X-box with its larger installed fan-base in the US got there first, which would be a given since they play more of a suicidal online mode…
With the PS3′s smaller hardware base I think they probably did it faster if someone would break down the numbers behind the kills… But that is for another day and the game is great fun to play for the price it is going for. If I had to pay $60 for this I would be wanting more content to play with, the maps could be a little larger to stretch out game-play times. It would at least change the boredom factor because of the lack of maps, with just three Island Campaigns it can get a little old after a week of constant play especially during summer break for school kids…
numbers like that guarantee more dlc = good news
