doublesix today announced the success of its first PlayStation® Network title ‘Burn Zombie Burn.’ The game has now achieved sales of 70,000 units, the studio’s internal benchmark for success. As digitally distributed titles tend to have a longer life cycle, the game continues to sell well after the initial release and doublesix are confident that ‘Burn Zombie Burn’ will reach a significantly higher lifetime figure.

James Brooksby, Studio Head of doublesix stated:

“We’re clearly delighted that ‘Burn Zombie Burn’ is performing well. It’s our first experience of digital console publishing and we’ve found the entire process very exciting and rewarding. However, I do wish that all the platform owners would make their digital sales figures public. We feel this lack of transparency is hindering the development of these channels. We’re happy to back this opinion up with the release of the figures for ‘Burn Zombie Burn’.”

Brooksby was quick to note that the team’s internal sales target of 70,000 copies sold was achieved without the release of their upcoming content, such as the Home space, bundles, expansion packs, competitions, and more. He continued on by saying:

“As a developer trying to decide which platforms to develop for, as well as what type of games to make, we’re currently in the dark regarding real sales performance for digital platforms and that makes it increasingly difficult to make realistic plans. I’d like to see some kind of verified sales charts on all digital systems to encourage more developers to support these channels and to help make sensible investment decisions.”

We here at PSLS congratulate the developers on their success, and hope to see more titles from this developer on PSN in the near future. You can check out our review of Burn Zombie Burn right here.

  1. That’s $700,000 split up between the developers and Sony. The only thing I want to know is the approximate amount that it all cost to make this game. I think that’s the most important factor. It’s one thing to go “look how much money we’ve made” it’s another thing to go “It took us this long to develop it, it took us this much money to make it, Sony double that amount out of our pockets, and look how much profit we’ve made!”

If they release how much money it costs to make your own game, you might get some programmers to buy a dev kit, and get to work. I mean people make stuff like Dead Fantasy and Flash games for free, I can’t wait until we start seeing some more Flash game like PSN games. Fancy Pants is quite fun. With a controller I could only imagine how much I would enjoy it. Especially if it’s like 5 dollars a title.

  6. Earn Zombie Earn!

I think this game took advantage of the publisher fund so they had less up-front costs and split revenue with Sony?
