As the economic recession continues in full swing, Sony’s Greatest Hits for PlayStation 3 have seen a sudden boom. While last time around six titles joined the Greatest Hits club, only two will be getting the red tag treatment.

If you’re a fan of either wrestling or open-world titles, you’ll probably like what’s coming up. Saints Row 2 and Smackdown vs Raw 2009 are becoming Greatest Hits titles, as Gamestop has confirmed. The two titles showed up on the online Gamestop site, both with the Greatest Hits box art. Unfortunately, you cannot purchase them at this time.

  1. What do you need to qualify as a greatest hits, I wonder? I agree with Saints Row 2 since a lot of people liked it but Smackdown vs Raw 2009 people actually play these games. IDK it could be just me but I don’t see anything interesting in wrestling games.

For me, they need to change the box from solid red into a see-through one. So you could feel the high end into it. Im sorry, but i find the box of the greatest hits to be less appealing. I know that it doesn’t matter to everyone. Just my opinion.

I was living in canada a year ago and have to agree with you, i would say it helps to stand out which is what it is meant to do as well at a lower price. However i prefer the standard case as is and the UK “Platinum” games (same as greatest hits) is a silver case and would prefer the greatest hits case to this. I don’t mind the case being different however it differently wish it was something else. I know that sony want change it now, just wising really XD

  4. man they have really lowered the standard for greatest hits

  5. Prolo says:

I’m pretty sure that greatest hits only require a certain number of sales to reach that status. As far as lowering standards or wondering if people even play those games, you have to look at the demographic that is buying them. Wrestling has been as big as any other sport for quite some time, and has a following that is similar to Nascar, or any other sport for that matter. People will buy a game if it is something they are into regardless of the overall quality.

Metal Gear Solid 4 totally deserves to be one of the Greatest Hits if not Legendary Hits!

  7. I can’t believe I’m going to be the first to mention / whine about it, but I’ll take it upon myself to do it anyways:

    Uncharted? Heavenly Sword? WHY NOT?

There, I feel better now. Thanks for listening.

  8. yea… I want Uncharted…It should have been a greatest hits ny now

  9. Psmgamer says:

Walmart had Saints Row 2 on sale a few months ago for $30 but its a good game but I would of expected like Uncharted to become a Greatest Hits game by now or even Bioshock. I might get Smackdown! 2009 since its $30 along with Saints Row 2. Uncharted probably will be a Greatest Hits next year at E3 as Sony has the bundle with Uncharted for $499.99 unless Sony stops selling the bundle.

I’m just glad to see that they are finally starting to really get the Greatest Hits program going for the PS3. I agree with a lot of you that these two aren’t the greatest games ever, but I’m pretty sure the only criteria used for Greatest Hits is number of units sold. If you remember for the PS2 almost every title that came out became a Greatest Hit after it was on the shelves for about 6 months.

  11. shadowjin says:

isn’t killzone and infamous also becoming greatest hits?

  12. DarkAnal says:

Uncharted will probably become a greatest hit when they release Uncharted 2, but i seriously cant understand why Heavenly Sword isnt by now

  13. Dan Massi says:

    I have no idea.

Heavenly Sword is a Platinum in PAL regions, so we may see it with the next batch of Greatest Hits. :)

  14. To become greatest hits a game has to meet certain sales expectations by the publisher and developer, not sony

  15. Nootfloosh says:

All a game needs to be Greatest Hits is to sell a million copies. Whether Sony feels its worth it to re-release the game is their own decision.
