It may not be a sure fire confirmation for the little trinkets to make their way to your favorite handheld, but Shuhei Yoshida, Senior Vice President at Product Development at SCEA, had this beacon of hope when asked about Trophies on the PSP by PTOM recently:
“It’s under discussion, but there are some technical challenges.”
That’s a far cry from the statement Eric Lempel, the Director of Playstation Network Operations, put out at E3 this year when asked by Joystiq:
“You’re not going to see Trophies on the PSP.”
We assume the technical difficulties stem from what Mr. Lempel said as his reason why:
“If people can artificially inflate their rankings and amounts of Trophies it kills the whole [Trophy] system.”
How about forcing people to be logged onto the network when trying to accumulate trophies? I’m sure the powers that be can think of a way to allow the PSP crowd to get their fix!

I hope they can contain the problems behind it. What happened with the X360 gamers when they hacked the achievement system , could happen to PSP too. However , I really want to see them ( when I sell my previous model for PSPGo).

i cant figure out why this would be so hard… they both have online capablities so how hard is it to put psp trophies into a database… just make them the same as ps3 trophies and make psp game worth somewhere between psn and ps3 games (since they have that number to trophy system thingy). this shoud have been implemented awhile ago. i guess the biggest thing is the whole hacking of psp and there would probably be a lot of taking advantage of the trophy system

they should just encode the save file to the person’s PSN user name. (that way they can only be credited to that person), just like what they do to demo’s now.

i hope they do bring trophies to the PSP.
there stupid if they can but dont, allot of people would buy a psp if you could.
it would finally push me over the edge to buy a psp because theres not many games i want to play on it.
but something i WISH they would do this would be kick a$$.
if they allowed us to play PS3 games via wifi.
how you can turn on a computer from another state as long as that PC is plugged in and has accsess to the net. same as foxtell how you can hop on the net and record a program without being at your box.
if sony did that and allowed you to use the PSP to play PS3 games.
OMG i would go insane that would be so cool, i would definetly buy one if you could do that.
im sure every one who has a ps3 would buy a psp if they could do that.
imagine playing uncharted 2 while on the train.
OOOOOOOOOOOO YYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really wish I could grab a PSP but there isn’t enough time in my day to play it

@ Jeneric
the cell makes sure the trophies are achieved and not hacked. Another reason why they dont port trophies over.

Some pretty good points made by everyone. I know Sony is pretty PO’d with the money lost on hacked games with the PSP, but there are a lot of ways to skin a cat. There will always be hackers, but I think Sony is revisiting this with the advent of completely downloaded material on the Go. I’m sure they are aware of how many people will take the plunge on a Go if they introduce trophies with it. How about just making trophies available with games released on the PSN (no UMD)?

@ Says – This isn’t possible. The bandwidth isn’t there yet. You’d be streaming a game from your home (or where ever) and there would just be too much lag. Maybe if every network used T3, or OC192 links to go to your home from the Captive Offices, but the cost would be enormous. Not to mention full scale PS3 games were not meant (not programmed) for the PSP. You’d have control issues (dual analog stick issues) and other what not. It’s more trouble than it’s worth to Sony.

Just have 2 separate systems so they’ll only have issue with policing one(PSP). Or only make trophies for the PSPgo. All these issues and the hole reason for the PSPgo is hackers. If I were sony, you wouldn’t be able 2 play newer games or access ur psn account with out dozens of update required restrictions that would brick hacked PSP systems. Hacked systems would still thrive, people would just have multiple systems one 4 home fun and another for new games and online play.
