When SCEE originally confirmed their GamesCom press conference to last nearly 3 hours, the internet nearly exploded with excitement. With a conference that long, new announcements and revealings were certain to be aplenty…
However, a Sony Europe representative has just confirmed that the actual press conference is “just over an hour” long. Furthermore, Sony has allowed extra time before so the “[journalists can] sit down… before we get started.” Presumably, that is where the misinterpretation occured, as Sony gave journalists before and after nearly 30 minutes each way, to drink, relax, and get prepared.
Sony’s GamesCom press conference begins at 7:00pm CET (10am Pacific and 1pm Eastern) next Tuesday, August 18th.

how does 3 hours get misinterpreted as “a little more than an hour with extra time to relax before the conference”?
ah, thats a shame, but an hour is still long enough to pack in tons of announcements and news
What they need 30 min. to sit down, are these journalists all senil or what???
This can be a good or bad thing.
Does anyone know where/if this will be streamed on the internet? E3 was on many sites, but maybe this one isn’t getting as much hype…
@Kain81
Have you seen the quality of game journalism these days? Of course they are senile. Present company excepted of course PSLS.
Somebody on GAF had posted that they went to the conference last year. Sony had food and drinks and invited people to relax and have a good time. It seems last years conference was a year also.
My guess is it’s be closer to 2 hours, but you know what they say it’s not how long your conference is it’s how you use it.
@joinsideke:
The EU Playstation blog will be doing a live blog from the conference. First I know of that is covering it.
Jaxx377 made me laugh.
@joinsideke:
Last year’s show is currently up on PSN. This year’s show should get the same treatment.
Yeah we do set ourselves up sometimes as I have definitely been guilty of this in the past, but people need to stop blaming Sony for not delivering what they never promised and save the critisism for when there are actual issues and not ones made up by fanboys with over active imaginations.
an hour is still plenty of time for some big announcements
I could never imagine a three hour press conference, that just didn’t make sense.
Warning following comment may cause undesireable images to burn themselves in your brain. Reader discression is advised. Content not rated by ESRB, estimated at PG-13 and up for talk of porn and use of the word climax. You have been warned.
Kain81… You do know how big those areas are right? If they just had like 5 minutes it’d be like trying to fill up a HighSchool Gym in 5 minutes or less. 30 minutes allows them to get there, check in, get everything ready, find a seat, get their blogging/reporting mechanism ready, do some tests, and have a nice friendly chat about upcoming rumors with the guy too hopped up on caffeine to notice that you’re looking up porn for the sake of porn.
If I was Sony I’d cut off the 20 minutes, mostly because it’s unhealthy to have that much time to look at porn, because if a breaking news climax comes, someone may lose an eye.
Take that post however you want it kids.
Lmao Jaxx. I thought you were being completely serious (I guess you could be hah). Didn’t pick that one up quick enough.
Well if you go to VG247 website or just click on the link you will read that the 1st day of the conference starts at 6:30pm and lasts until 8:30pm. So Sony has basically the whole 2hours of the first day for their keynote address when they start at 7pm and it lasts a little over an hour. Not sure how much M$ has sloted but I would suspect about the same and since they shot their wad with Natal at E3 the only new thing would be a new X-box Business version that uses Natal for video conferencing…LMAO…
Hmmm…. I would still think this is at least more than 2hrs. long. They maybe shutting the public down a little. Still a “hmmmmm…”.
