Famed Japanese developer tri-Ace has teamed with Square Enix for as long as anyone can remember, pumping out popular RPG titles such as Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean with the help of the RPG powerhouse publisher. And that makes tri-Ace’s recent decision to start publishing through SEGA all the more shocking.
Resonance of Fate, or End of Eternity as it’s known in Japan, is the first title to jump over to SEGA’s court. Director Takayuki Suguro explained his company’s decision for the move by stating:
“Because SEGA has a more open attitude towards accepting new RPG ideas than Square Enix, we’d decided to have SEGA release End of Eternity.”
The multiplatform RPG is slated for a 2009 release.

This is a wrong move by tri-ace. Or at least square enix’s influence over their games made a big difference in terms of quality.
Im a big Star Ocean fan and i’ve played every single star ocean to date except the “blue Sphere version because i dont have Gameboy Handheld.
I understand that Square enix has become a “money whore” recently and has been milking fans with something they dont want.
For example, fans wanted a FF7 remake – they made advent children,
fans wanted a FF7 remake – they made crisis core (prequel)
fans wanted FF7 remake – blu-ray re-release of advent children plus the FF13 demo
fans wanted Chrono trigger remake, they made an album with its soundtrack and a few pictures inside.
fans wanted chrono trigger renake, they made a DS game. (prequel style, AGAIN)
square enix screwed so many fans, and oh yeah FF13 is coming on 360.
… watever it may be – square has been shitty lately, tri-ace must’ have been fed up.

Good to see people jumping from that sinking ship. Let’s just hope SEGA doesn’t ruin everything the way they usually do.

good move to hopefully get away from the stagnation they were in

yay Tri-Ace, anyone who thinks this is a bad move, I laugh at your lack of gaming knowledge.
let me explain. SquareSoft was a good company that was pumping out a good game every year, either a new Final Fantasy or something to fill our RPG needs (they weren’t flooding the market with games). but then Square seem to have run out of ideas and made a sequel to a sequel, sort of with FFX-2 (which I hear was actually pretty good, so excuse me). But after the merger with Enix, the games Square was pumping out weren’t up to the SquareSoft standard, Kingdom Hearts 2 was nowhere near what KH was and all the Square-Enix games released after the merger weren’t receiving anywhere near Squares 9/10 ratings (some games like KH2 did receive 9’s but that was nearing completion before the mergers). It wasn’t until the time of FFXII did Square-Enix have a 9/10 game.
SEGA – as of now, has had some blockbuster games in the past year, they have gone from nothing, to being possibly the best video game developer of the year. They have the new series Valkyria Chronicles which is a hit in US and Japan, and Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 (Yakuza 3), which has only been outsold by Metal Gear Solid 4 in Japan.
SEGA has 2 of the top 5 most own games for PS3 in Japan, what do you think Tri-ace would do? how many most own games does Square-Enix have on PS3…. or even Xbox360 for that matter.

Best thing for them they should look forward to the future and not stay with a company tha is obviously going to suck.

Well ever since it became Square Enix it’s just Final Fantasy and a few Dragon Quest’s.
I love Final Fantasy but I’d like some new ideas like y’know, back then.
When they did stuff like Parasite Eve and other games BESIDES Final Fantasy >.>
Again I love Final Fantasy but it’s sad, SquareEnix has been dumb lately on 500 different levels, and one is how they act in terms of publishing to the PS3.

I would say this is a nice move. Innovation is always welcome.
