I love my PS3, I could easily be considered a fanboi, but… I really don’t like the newer, trimmer model.
Sure my PS3′s big, chubby even. And yes it’s made of fingerprint-magnet shiny-shiny plastic. Granted it even adds a significant sum to my electricity bill each year, and it probably drinks my beer and makes lewd suggestions to my cat too… But, damn it looks good… Perched there, freshly dusted, on it’s smoked glass shelf on the TV unit.

I like the design of both, but still am glad I got the launch version for all the extras. I would get a PS3 Slim if I had the money for when I move. I think that more people will be joining the SONY gaming ranks.

Based on these pics, here’s what I get for measurements after adjusting the second pic to fit with the scale in the first using the ratio of the width. Measurements are in pixels.
Old PS3 = 177 L x 205 W x 59.28 H
PS3 Slim = 188 L x 188 L x 39.29 H
Slim is 6% bigger in length
Slim is 8% shorter in width
Slim is 34% shorter in height
New PS3 is overall 36% smaller.
Personally, I was hoping for some shrinkage in width by a bit more than the height since that’s the biggest issue for me, finding cabinet space to fit it laying down. But, if you have some wide but not-so-tall shelf space, this will work great, especially considering it should run much cooler and quieter than the old PS3 models.
With such a great decrease in the height of the console, I highly doubt this will be meant to be stood on end without an additional support base.

WTF? The slim is gonna be £250 in the uk or to anyone else $415 or 290 ish euros why does sony break the balls of sony uk fans, I mean after Japan the uk has the largest fanbase
Talk about an unprecedented move. Not even Microsoft has a slimline console out right now, and they’ve been on the market longer.
God if MS did have a slim what would they call it?

Well with their reputation sliming down the X-box with the 360 you can’t say that they don’t have a slim version the 360 is there slim version and look how that turned out…
But when I can afford one I wil get one maybe after the first of next year.. For now I am wanting to get the PSPGo and if the offer revealed at Gamescom is for all world users then I will definetely be day one maybe even pre-order so that means the slim will have to wait…

I’ll just say it… The PS3 Slim is the ugliest console I saw in my life… It makes the phat one looks like a Swarovski diamond. Hell, the PS2 slim looked awesome over the other one. Besides the size, I’d rather stick with my old one.
Honestly, did the Chinese take over the design? Because I doubt Sony in Japan or America would be stupid enough to design a crap like that, it looks like a cheap piece of plastic.
