Infinity Ward must have taken a good look at Halo 2, and the positive reception the game recieved when Bungie gave players the ability to dual wield pistols, because dual-wielding has been confirmed for Modern Warfare 2. Infinity Ward’s own Robert Bowling gave the final word at a GameCrazy event in Las Vegas.

Bowling stated the following:

“Just walked off stage. Crowd was amazing, went insane chanting “pick it up!” when I stumbled over Dual-wield Deagles. lol – Akimbo confirmed”

That’s desert eagles, in case you were wondering. How do you feel about this new addition to the series. Is it too arcadey? Or do you see it as an improvement to the overall gameplay?

    It’s a nice touch.

  2. Jeneric Says:

aww f***… definitely GOTY. i was just thinking about how sick halo was for having it. cant wait for this game… been playing cod4 a lot with the clan lately.

  3. giese095 Says:

so I guess they’re moving away from Modern Warfare realism and moving towards Modern Warfare the arcade shooter. I don’t think it will hurt the gameplay, but the one thing I enjoyed about the original Modern Warfare was how everything about it felt real, like if I was a soldier today this is exactly how this would happen. It seems now like Activision is moving away from this realism and just wants to put in every feature that will make the game more exciting, which I don’t agree with. I first felt this way when I saw the snowmobile scenes…is this a crazy action game or a detailed realistic shooter?? I’m sure MW2 will still be a good game, but they’re moving it in the wrong direction if you ask me.

  4. smokey_vols Says:

Ehh, I hope they keep this out of online play and keep it strictly single-player.

  5. Max Power Says:

I am more glad I am not getting this game.

  6. skullking123 Says:

    @giese095

how is dual-wielding making mw2 so unrealistic? I can defiantly see opportune moments where you can use dual wield to an advantage. You can say it is not realistic because you can defiantly do it. But it really depends on the weapon that are being used. If anything I bet this will be a perk. And perks were never made to be realistic.

  7. fourzerotwo Says:

The article image is deceiving. Akimbo is limited to side-arms.

    John Draisey says

Yeah, I couldn’t find an MW2 photo with the character holding a pistol. If you can supply us with one, I’ll happily redo the header image.

  8. wtGp Says:

@skullking123 l agree. If anything dual weilding is more relaistic especially in modern times, u wouldn’t discard your 2nd weapon just because you have two weapons and can’t use them at the same time, what kind of logic is that? Anyways l had a feeling this going to be added to the game.

  9. soldiercell Says:

don’t like it. Takes away from the realness.

    Ryan Ordway says

How is wielding two pistols unrealistic?

  10. Jonathan Leack Says:

    I like what I see.

  11. soldiercell Says:

You see Rambo wielding two guns, not marines or special ops

  12. megs1120 Says:

The recoil would ruin your aim if you were holding a gun in one hand. Even more if you’re firing two of them. Even more if they’re big, high power pistols. Trying to fire a .50 handgun one-handed would likely result in a broken wrist. It’s in the game because Halo 2 did it and it looks cool. It looks cool in Halo 2 because you’d have to be Master Chief to do it.

    It’s not remotely plausible.

  13. kirobz Says:

Dont care. I’m not getting this. There’s more better games that I could put my $60.

  14. SPD55 Says:

Yeah when they start going Hollywood in games like this style of gameplay then the game is desperate for gamers… So with that desperation makes me not want ot even think about this game…

  15. shadowjin Says:

    @ Ryan Ordway

the recoil…….. also hes not using standered old guns from the cowboy days. That cant even be considered 2 pistol’s.

    @wtGp

dual wielding is not realistic in modern times.. dual wield a shot gun and a pistol or a M16 and a 50 caliber handgun. using 2 of the same guns from this generation is like firing the Desert Eagle at speeds even the Terminator could not accomplish without breaking his wrist. Running while firing a .50cal let alone using 2 its unrealistic…MW has always been about realism. like soldiercell mentioned no military officer does that and trust me, i know many enlisted gun crazy Army men.

  16. wtGp Says:

    @shadowjin
u do know that Rambo is Vietnam War veteran. Dual weilding is realistic, l don’t know how much u bench press but possible dual wielding weaons such as the scorpion is realistic

  17. megs1120 Says:

The skorpion is a much lighter weapon with far less recoil than a desert eagle. Even then, it’s not advisable to fire a weapon like that one-handed, if only for accuracy reasons. It’s simply not done outside of action movies and video games.

  18. MakaiOokami Says:

    WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH!!!

Let’s get 1 thing straight. Games like Time Splitters were doing this LONG before Halo. Please add TimeSplitters into that article. That’s a game that I’ve spent countless hours on. When everyone else wanted to play Halo, I was having a ton of fun running around as a robot monkey with a rocket launcher in the wild west, sucking the life out of those I killed. (most customizeable multiplayer shooter I’ve ever seen lol)

  19. Tynan182 Says:

“Happened to be dual Deagles. Now to calm some initial fears of “OMG! Overpowered!”. Akimbo is limited and balanced, just like EVERYTHING in the game. It’s limited to sidearms, harder to aim than standard and you can’t go ADS (aim down sights) since you have a weapon in each hand; Among other balancing techniques, so don’t freak out before you see it in action.” by FourZero Two

It will probably work out in the long run.

  20. skullking123 Says:

In the end you should see it before saying its unrealistic or not. Like I said I think it will probably be a PERK thing and probably limited to side arms. Since when has PERKS been that realistic in the first place.

  21. Bacon4thetakin Says:

    @MakaiOokami

I love Timesplitters too! I really wish Free Radical hadn’t made Haze so they’d still be around to make TS4! It’s been delayed because of all of this Crytek business… :’(

  22. s***eHustle29 Says:

Are you really making a comparison to Rambo? He is a fictional character. Even wielding 2 dessies is overpowered imo. I would catch wreck with that and feel like a $2 prostitue afterwards. I really hope they lower the accuracy while duel wielding by a decent enough amount. I won’t write it off until I try it. Here’s to hoping for balance.

  23. John Bucci Says:

Since when is MW a realistic shooter anyway? There is no acceleration when you run, you can jump the same height carryiing any weapon, and all the guns feel the same. It doesn’t make it not fun, just not realistic. If you want realistic physics then play KillZone 2. That is by far the most realistic feeling game, albiet set in Sci Fi. If someone took that game and made a Modern Warfare out of it then you you would have realistic.

Dual wielding Desert Eagles? Like Megs1120 and Shadowjin pointed out…just not possible.

    John Draisey says

Yeah, I don’t recall the COD series being realistic. It’s more like hollywood-style realism, similar to BLACK. Killzone 2 takes the top spot for realism; i can only imagine what Guerrilla Games would accomplish with a modern warfare setting.

Can’t deny how fun it is to dual-wield though. =]

  24. diesel1984 Says:

MW wasn’t about full realism, nor as it about john woo crazy gun battles. It was about making you feel like you were in the real s***, in a real special OPS squad, to the extent a video game can do that.

From that point of view, dual wielding is simply ridiculous. No soldier will shoot two sidearms at once. One hand on the pistol’s grip, the other one supporting the weight of the pistol from underneath the grip. No other way, no slomo jumping with both gunz blazing. Unless you are a terrorist controlling time flow. Will they have that too?

When it comes to sub machine guns and bigger weapons, dual wielding is out of the question simply because with one hand you hold the weapons against your shoulder and the other hand is for support. Arnold and Rambo could shoot from the hip because the movie script took care of the aiming.

Like most people said above, it worked in Halo 2 because there were aliens involved. It’s kind of stupid to argue one cannot shoot a Needler and a shotgun at the same time.

    Cheers!

  25. skullking123 Says:

Oh and BTW i believe the only dual-wielding weapon is the AKIMBO

  27. DRCD1 Says:

skullking123, what do you mean by “the only dual-wielding weapon is the AKIMBO”? Akimbo is a body position where the hands are on the hips and that may be used for dual shooting.

Oh don’t base your opinion on the above image cause it’s just a weapon mirrored (look at the HB sensor). I belive that only Pistols will be dual wield and will have horrible accuracy, so it’s up to the player to choose if he’ll grab it. Realistic Scenario: A Spec-ops dude has a M191 colt .45 (or whatever it’s called) and finds another one dropped in the floor by an enemy. If he wants it, he grabs it, if he doesn’t want it, he won’t grab it. Damn, he could even take his helmet off and throw it at an enemy lol (like in saving private ryan)

  28. DGR8Mc187 Says:

    Dual weilding FTW.

    Oh boy.

  32. shurnster Says:

It can happen but real soldiers wouldn’t use dual wielding. I think it’s a stupid idea. There’s always a primary and a secondary. As for rambo you guys thats fictional hollywood bulls**t. How can you shoot out two .50 calibers at the same time? If they just put pistols I still think that it’s a little off. I don’t think that the whole game is made to be realistic when playing online. As far as the single player campaign they shouldn’t put in duel-wielding it takes out too much realism. but I hope that they don’t go too far out it they do, the whole game is going to end up looking like a looney toons video game. I just think that they should have put in a little more violence (blood and gore) into the game to make it more realistic. :)

  33. sniperkid07 Says:

The .50 cal Desert Eagle a compensator and a muzzle break to compensate for the recoil i own one and trust it sounds intimidating but really its not that bad and i think with practice someone could accurately dual wield desert eagles.
