PS3 Review – Madden NFL 10

As always the online mode is fantastic. It will make you love and hate the game at the same time, but both in good ways. Madden is probably one of the only games I’ve seen good friends almost get into a fight over based on an online outcome. It is sad, but true. It can bring out the worst in people, because typically the people that play it religiously online are hardcore. There are the quitters that disconnect on you when you start whooping them, or when their “guaranteed” plays don’t seem to work on your well planned defense. But with the anti-cheating features built into the game, these events don’t really detract from the overall experience. This is also the first time trophies have been implemented in a Madden title on the PlayStation console, so for all you trophy whores out there, get to it! They’re both fun and easy to collect.

Overall, the game is good, and definitely worthy of a purchase. Especially for fans that have been turned off over the past few years because of the way the series was going. EA Sports took many steps in the right direction this time, and created a damn near perfect NFL game. It is a lot more fun, realistic, and mechanically sound. If you are on the fence about this one, give it a shot. I promise you will not be disappointed, aside from the few faults that I mentioned, such as the poor Superstar Mode and lacking half-time events.

PlayStation LifeStyle’s Final Score

Franchise mode is as exciting as ever.

While Superstar mode is lacking, it doesn’t detract from the game itself.

Blocking in the title is phenomenal; the pocket actually develops.

8 out of 10

Great review. Glad to see EA stepping up their game on Madden.

So I think this year’s game is a huge improvement from previous versions. I agree the Superstar mode is lacking in depth, you can’t improve your player off the field at all, but the animations and graphics and overall environment that you get when you’re on the field with your Superstar is very impressive so I still have fun playing it. I was very excited for the online franchise mode until I found out you had to pay for it…I have yet to pay for the option and I very highly doubt that I will. I can’t see any justification for having to pay an extra $10 for a mode that should have been included in the game itself that I paid $60 for so I will be missing out on this mode until EA quits being so damn greedy.

It’s nice to see that they actually made some great improvements in the game. Haven’t picked this up yet, I saved my money for batman. :P

  4. I can’t wait to get this once I can find it for $40.

@ giese095… if you bought the game new you dont have to pay for online franchise. theres a code on the back of the instruction manual, you put the code in and you have your online franchise. I also want to say that i couldn’t disagree more with this review, the madden series has been extremely flawed since next-gen (or should i say since EA got the rights to the NFL) 10 is better than 09 but thats not saying much. Its clear ea doesn’t care about hardcore football fans or the hardcore madden heads that have made the series so popular, but are catering to kids and people who just want to pick up the game and have an arcade style football game.
