The PS3 Slim hit some retailers today, and now a video has surfaced showing a new boot-up screen. Now when you turn on your PS3 you will be greated with the new logo.
It appears the new boot screen comes equipped on the PS3 Slim, and it may be coming to your “fat” PS3 via firmware 3.00. No word yet if that is indeed true, but we’ve contacted Sony for official confirmation.
Check out the video below:

It’s a lot faster than the original. I think it’s main purpose is to improve the user experience by cutting down the amount of time it takes to access content either stored on the HDD or on a disk. I kinda like the older one better, though.

it is slightly faster, however i dont really see the benefit of having this new boot-up screen for the “fat” PS3’s apart from few miliseconds of loading.
the choire who made the sound for the start up screen must be millionaires now.

doesn’t look like they came with 3.0 pre installed, guess we’ll have to wait until they do actually release 3.0.

For $400 you get a symphony, for $300 you get a single violin. That’s cost cutting I guess

must say i like it a lot, reminds me PlayStation2 aka PS2…lol
hope my fat PS3 will get the same logo as slim one..

any possibility RAM got upped? or the OS uses less RAM?
August 26th, 2009 at 6:04 PM
I am pretty sure Sony is always trying to slim down the OS footprint.

If it would be faster like that, I welcome it with open arms.

Maybe we’ll be allowed to add a custom sound when the PS3 starts up some day.

Jeff Rubenstein said he thinks it will be patched into old PS3s in Firmware 3.0

it would look strange if they did patch it in the old models because the logo is different on the PS3 fats.
