When Square Enix first revealed a tech demo for Final Fantasy VII running on the PS3, people got excited. Rumors began flying around that a remake for Final Fantasy VII would be coming, but three years later, it still hasn’t happened.
However, that could change. Talking with VideoGamer, Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that news of a Final Fantasy VII remake would “perhaps” come soon.
“As for a VII remake, all I can advise right now is to play the PSN release that just came out for the time being. Maybe, perhaps we’ll have some news for you at a later time.”
Will we be seeing some sort of news at Tokyo Game Show? “Perhaps” we will. Stay tuned!

Oh boy! Can’t wait to get a 360 so I can play it!
What that sounds like to me is “Well just keep yourself occupied with that so we can ignore your requests since you now have access to the game anyway”
or maybe it’s more like “Well if you guys buy it enough you’ll be paying for the remake to be produced”
Or maybe I’m just reading too far into it, but that doesn’t sound like something to get my hopes up about a remake.
I just do not get SE anymore. This would be about the easiest sell they could ever have. PS3 owners would flip out.
i agree with Cameron Teague, if they did a re-make of this it would be a system bundle/ system seller. people would flip over this game. I want it.
obviously they’ve been working on it, you’re talking about a company that has been milking the franchise with like…5 different sequels and movies (not including the 3+ versions of FFVII Advent Children). When the cow is finally dry, they’ll finally release FFVII for PS3. But after seeing the fall of the quality of games Square-Enix makes over Square-Soft, I don’t know if a FFVII will actually be worth the wait. You know it will get stellar reviews, but I think 90% of people would give it a good rating just because it’s FFVII and they’ve been waiting for it. (look at disidia, some people have given it horrible reviews, others have given it awesome reviews because it’s final fantasy)
Part of me doesn’t want a FFVII remake because they will probably find a way to make it multi-platform.
Granted, FFVII was on PS1 and the PC, but FFVII is one of the greatest Playstation games of all time. And if they remake it and then give it an 360 version just to sell more copies, no thanks. I’d rather keep my 1997 Playstation version.
Sony Computer Entertainment America produced FFVII, so maybe that wouldn’t happen at all. But I still don’t want to think about it.
Ok seriously this would make this the best possible year the ps3 could have hoped for. Honestly i dont think they could keep units on teh shelves
This would probably be a no-brainer. They know this would sell by multi-millions. And this must be stictly for PS3 only. It would really annoy fans it they port it to the 360. And it wouldn’t feel right.
Id hit it.
Oooh I cannot wait until Tokyo Games Show, they must announce it then! and hopefully more news of Final Fantasy versus XIII
If a Final Fantasy VII remake is in the works, it must be a PS3-Exclusive. Not just because I don’t want another good title going multi-platform, but for the hardcore-fans of the original on the Playstation 1.
I’m just wondering if Sony do own the intellectual property for this, since they published it and a remake would come under the same IP, Sony have all rights to say it’s a PS3-exclusive. let’s hope so
how hard is it to remake FF7? l mean look at crisis core, they already got the gist of making a remake of the game already
@ Danlord
Don’t forget, Final Fantasy VII was released on the PC as well, published by Eidos.
I have a feeling that SE will release FF7 very late into the PS3 life cycle… since the user base will have increased by than.
