A lot of gamers are aware that in the case of sales over a multiplatform title, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 generally comes up on top. It appears Batman rejects the status quo.

On Thursday, two days after release of Batman: Arkham Asylum, the PS3 version’s head held high on Amazon, coming in at a sales rank of 4 in the site’s Video Game section. The Xbox 360 version was still close behind, having a rank of 5, just one below the PS3 version.

The same was apparent at Best Buy, as the PS3 version Batman: Arkham Asylum was listed as the best-selling version. And at Wal-Mart, where the PS3 version also came up on top, as the best-selling version. Both retailers had Xbox 360 come in a close second.

Did you pick up Batman: Arkham Asylum? What did you think? Post your thoughts below!

perhaps the joker content has something to do with it,
once again the joker contributes to Batmans’ ultimate success.
He just can’t get a break can he?

still waiting for amazon delivery bw. :-(

  2. Cameron Teague Says:

i think it has to do a lot with the joker content. I know owners of both systems who bought the game on PS3 because of that content.

  3. LoveStrucked Says:

Sony should have aided some marketing power for that DLC content.
Like what Microsoft did with GTA4 DLC and Fallout 3 DLC

  4. Sebastian Moss Says:

The joker content certainly helps, but more importantly all the Slim buzz will be sure to increase sales as shoppers may pick up Batman with the console

  5. Karum Says:

I think the joker content has a lot to do with this, if you’re a Batman fan and one version offers you the chance to play as the joker there’s no way you’re turning that down imo.

The price cut and more PS3’s being out there and people picking this up at the same time may also be a factor.

I bought the game today (PS3 version ofc) but not had a chance to play yet, will get stuck into it later though!

When I was picking up my pre-order at Gamestop, I was about 8th in line probably, and they hadn’t given out a single 360 copy yet. It was a beautiful sight.

As everyone else said, it was definitely because of the Joker content. I am also quite happy with how it shows up on the Video section of the XMB as a blu-ray for the exclusive trailers and behind the scenes stuff.

  7. kagenish Says:

yeah i love this game and the same goes for the gamestop i go to they have sold more ps3 copys then xb360

  8. wtGp Says:

the game is awesome and u have thank the joker content for that

“Perhaps the Joker content has something to do with it”?

OFCOURSE THE JOKER CONTENT HAS ALL TO DO WITH IT! lol

The game is absolutely amazing in all areas. Exploration/reward, story telling/progression, graphics, controls, balance. I have a hard time shuting it off to go to sleep at night…

  10. Cameron Teague Says:

and actually, don’t forget this game has not even released on 360 in Europe so that also has some to do with it.

  11. Jonathan Leack Says:

The joker content is pretty underrated. I saw videos on a review on YouTube and it looked great.

  12. Moyayo Says:

this is a testament to the power of superior exclusive content…

  13. BigWoopMagazine Says:

Agreed all around. Bought it, beat it, love it. Not the longest game in the world, but what is there is done top notch. After playing the full game, it takes a little getting used to controlling the joker in the challenges, he’s quite different. His “detective mode” glasses can only be equipped while standing, you can’t move with them on. No grappling hook, but he has unique gadgets, like remote control explosive chattering teeth, and a one shot one kill gun. It definitely requires a different strategy getting through them with him, and its cool that when you lose batman basically tells you that you suck.

The reason for chosing PS3 is marginal. But the voting – which is usually Tie or Xbox – favors PS3.

For multi-platform games, my MO is to buy the PS3 unless there is multi-player.

  15. Rictor Says:

I think PS3slim has something to do with this, along with the content.
as for most multiplatform based we’ve seen Xbox360 version have a larger sale rate because the system has a larger install rate. but now with more people buying PS3’s we may see this shift, although with the PS3slim just coming out and everyone now buying PS3s I don’t think we’ll see that shift just yet. I think we can blame this all on the content. nice grab Sony.

  16. Matthew Whitney Says:

When I went to GameStop for the midnight launch, the PS3 version was almost sold out while the store had hundreds of copies of the Xbox 360 version. Although I asked the store manager if they received more Xbox 360 versions than PS3 versions, he had…but he also told me that the PS3 version was selling way better.

  17. Neurotoxiny Says:

I bought this for the PS3… great purchase, I can see why it outdid the Xbox version… It had more features. Thought that was kinda obvious but whatever.

  18. PBone Says:

I think playing Joker has alot to do with it, also getting a Batcave for home. and Also alot of new people picking up the new Ps3 120gb system are getting the game.

Dont forget toyRus was giving away 30 dollar gift cards ( as a rewards member) if you werent a member you got 20 dollars.

there were alot of good deals going on.

  19. FiftyQuid Says:

The Joker content is obviously why the PS3 copy has pulled ahead. I’m sure people are walking in and picking up PS3 Slims with a copy of Batman:AA.

As for the XBOX360 coming in a close second, of course it is close! What the hell else came out this week? MS gamers need something new to play too.

  20. Steven Garcia Says:

I think it’s the Joker content.

  21. Natiej85 Says:

Everyone knows it’s the Joker Content and you can’t blame the people because it looks freakin sweet. The only reason I haven’t gone out and gottin this title is because I played the Demo and realized that it was gonna take over my world and invade my dreams and I’m not really feeling like making that kind of commitment right now, lol. But seriously, if and when I do go pick up my next AAA title this one with been on the top of the list. The PSN titles and movies keep settin me back.

  22. DGR8Mc187 Says:

Good news , my guess is joker content due to the popularit of the Joker in the recent Bat flick too.

  23. Odium_Generis Says:

Well I like Home. And I got a Batcave personal space as well as the joker content.

  24. soldiercell Says:

    The tides are turning. :)

  25. MDS Says:

i bought the game today, but my ps3 blu ray laser died so can’t play it at the moment :(

  26. Sneeches Says:

for 38$ new I bought it for my PS3 even though I already have it for free on my xbox. I love the game and wanted to support these dev’s so I picked it up for my ps3.

  27. kirobz Says:

I’m sad that I wont be getting this game this week. Especially that best buy has a good offer on it. *sigh* :(

Joker would probably be the main reason. And well, PS3 is the Dark knight of Consoles. :P
