Firmware 3.0 On the Horizon

The PlayStation 3 will be recieving a firmware update to version 3.0 tomorrow, with the announced features including dynamic themes, PS Store shortcuts, TV program shortcuts (in certain European countries) and more.

Additionally, according to VG247 the update was released to devs last week ahead of the confirmed September 1 launch.

    I’m very excited! And as usual, before big firmware updates, I can’t even play games. I mean, I have Batman: Arkham Asylum wich is a great game, but it’s always forums and newssites like this that get’s my attention.

    I hope it includes the ability to actually backup/restore copy protected save data so I can transfer my KZ2 save to my Slim. Seems retarded to not be able to.

    I cannot wait until it’s released. No doubt there is some unannounced features and I know the whole controversy about cross-game chat whether it’s true or not but that one feature alone will shut me up forever about firmware updates, I wouldn’t care about any other feature, well maybe in-game music and xmb but meh

    They said that the update is comparable to the NXE and the features announced are really good but I wouldn’t put it to the overhaul NXE did for Xbox, so there must be unannounced features. Cannot wait and as always I’m going to stick with PSLS for news about all the features open and hidden that are revealed.

    I have been setting up for this firmware all day today. Im set for tomorrow. And just think from now till the end of the year we are getting hit after hit after from Sony.

    l’ve been waiting for this for a long time. l hope the new avatars are ones of Kratos and l want those cool themes

    It will come when they release it. I don’t understand the hype of every update that changes the first digit to a new number. A lot of people, mostly children, don’t really understand what it does not mean. Any FW update could contain features that they are looking for, ver 3.0 is no different than ver 2.0. When everyone hypes the cross game chat or in game music beyond what is able to be delivered it hurts all of us. Me because I will have to wade through all the posts on the PSN Forums to find any bit of information in what was included in the FW. I just wait for what is given and am thankful that they take the time to add features for free to make the console into what they designed in the PSX in Japan years ago with a Media centric console that played games.

    this is gonna be great, of course the main attractions for this FW update is the new themes, at least to me, everything else is just a bonus to add to it.

    I just don’t want it to be too big so I have to wait forever to be able to see the new features or play games. I mean a big update means a lot of cool new stuff, but it also means a long download time.

    I usually wait a few hours, then check the forum to make sure everything is fine with it before downloading it.
    But to answer your question, yes, I’m looking forward to it.
