PS3’s new firmware 3.0 has totally changed the way the XMB looks. One of the touted new features is animated themes, but at first glance none are available. Keep looking as there is one available as of right now.
Sadly even the first available Dynamic (animated) PS3 theme costs a premium price of $2.99. Available right now in the PlayStation Store, you can download the LittleBigPlanet animated theme that was shown when firmware 3.0 was debuted. I was personally hoping we’d at least get one to test ride for free. Although after purchasing the theme myself, it is worth at least checking out, and at $2.99 it certainly won’t break the bank.

August 31st, 2009 at 11:36 PM
i want to get that theme, but am short by only 23 cents, and being without a job at the time, and no money, i cant get it, but hopefully soon they might put out a free dynamic theme, but overall, the new look is great.

I hope they add more on Thursday.

I would imagine more Dynamic/Animated themes as well as the announced “Premium Avatars” will be coming soon. Hope they have some extra free ones, but I think they halted them a long time ago because they realized they could make a little bit of money off of them (who can really blame them).
I hope when you get a platinum for a game, you unlock an exclusive avatar.

Very nice them for those who havent bought. It is a solid one for the first dynamic theme. Maybe they will make that FFXIII Versus one that was “fake” but still the video looked nice and i would love to have. Hopefully we will be able to make our own custom dynamic themes.

$2.99 is a steep price for just an animated theme, would have been great if it was $1.99

just DL’d 3.00 and i gotta say, it looks pretty spiffy. i like how the wallpaper blurs when you go into your pic folders. also like the new swirly ‘loading’ icon for the browser. not sure if it’s just me or not, but my wide screen pics look… different???… bigger or something. can’t quite put my finger on it. oh, i like the new PS3 logo at boot up and the sparklies are kinda cool too. going to check out the new dynamic theme now. see ya. = )

I too like the blurring effect – though they should have used it uniformly. It doesn’t blur over every menu item and seems strange that there’s no blur in the friends list.

@joinsideke the background for the theme is moving with sack boy running and jumping with the world spining and it changes with the time of day. You should really look it up on youtube son. Its sooooooo nice!!
August 31st, 2009 at 11:51 PM
i just bought this its ok but its missing its own sounds i whish it had cool sounds like some other theme i hope they add new avatars soon! Also i kinda dont like 3.0 because everything is huge!
09/01/2009 at 2:37 AM
The icons being huge actually looks better on my 52″ HDTV…so it works out for me.
August 31st, 2009 at 11:54 PM
you will get used to the hugeness i am starting too
September 1st, 2009 at 12:29 AM
$2.99 might not be a lot, but it is if you compare it to an actual game that can be bought for $4.99.

2 CENTS SHORT!.

is a nice update that the ps3 had i like the whats new section.
September 1st, 2009 at 12:39 AM
@ cutoff
Thanks, i already had seen the demo. My question was aimed at the actual theme released- when the article was first posted it didn’t say what theme it was, just that one was released. It’s all cool though.

Funny, as before they announced the dynamic screen saver for firmware3.0, I was thinking that its cool to use dreams as screensavers. I hope that we may get some free stuff soon. ;P

There is a FREE animated Afrika theme on the Japanese PSN now.

Thanks Louis, can you upload the .PST file? I no longer have a Japanese account.

As much as I’d like a new animated theme, 2.99 seems too much for something I’m only going to look at for a few seconds while I’m scrolling over to the game list.
September 1st, 2009 at 9:20 AM
$2.99 to be shared on 3 PS3 in my house = bargain.
Peace,
VG

this is a rip off… am i the only one who wants different sounds than the beep when you switch things… the batman theme, pixeljunk monsters and eden themes all have new noises and this so called premium theme should include different noises.
09/01/2009 at 10:56 AM
almost all the themes have custom noises. Sometimes I find them annoying. I wish you could choose to use a theme, then customize the noises. Like use the batman theme, but use the original button noises.
September 1st, 2009 at 1:47 PM
Yeah the first theme should have been a freebie (Sony needs to learn…get ‘em hooked then charge ‘em). I saw the theme after getting 3.0 and thought how awesome it was they put up a new theme for us to try….then I saw it wasn’t free. Bad decision imo. I mean in Japan their new them is free.
Anyway…..anyone notice that Divx playback has improved? Mine sure has.
September 1st, 2009 at 1:53 PM
@Jeneric
@StalkingSilence
under sound settings you can turn off the keytone which will kill those annoying sounds (actually it will kill all XMB sounds)
I know I had to for the Batman theme.
09/02/2009 at 10:58 AM
I hear ya, but it’s just too quiet.
September 1st, 2009 at 2:16 PM
@SS
i download a lot of themes and i cant say premium themes but free themes almost never have custom noises included… they mostly just use the regular beep. i do think itd be sweet be able to choose custom noises though
@Robotron
well yeah i know that… i always turn off my keypad tones on just about everything. but what i was saying is i want more custom noises not just the original beep with different icons and background, and SS was saying he would like to pick icons, backgrounds and beeps to whatever he wanted is all.
09/02/2009 at 10:57 AM
I download every free theme every week. They’ve generally stopped adding in custom sounds, but a lot DO have them. If you want a headache, check out any of the free PAIN themes.
September 1st, 2009 at 2:47 PM
I hope we can make our own animated themes, doubtful, but I can dream can’t I?.
September 1st, 2009 at 3:39 PM
Not gonna buy it , Now give me an animated evil inFamous theme and I will start warming up to it.
September 1st, 2009 at 3:50 PM
@Vanilla Can you share it with me too?
September 1st, 2009 at 4:25 PM
i got f/w 3/0… its def. nice..its fixed a few things, but i dont see much change. altho yes theres room for avatars…which im gonna have to buy just like everything else but ya about the lbp theme.. i mean just because its new.. they dont have to charge 2.99 for it…jeeez. i buy everything else, cant i just get a freakin nice theme for my background for free :\ ive spent entirely way to much in that damn ps store
September 1st, 2009 at 4:36 PM
I predict a free theme in the next issue of Qore.
September 1st, 2009 at 7:10 PM
I have downloaded the Afrika theme fron the japanese playstation store its a really cool theme, and it’s free.
September 1st, 2009 at 8:51 PM
It will only be a matter of time before we see some sort of Aquarium. Now if they’d make it some sort of ‘Shark Tank” to look and see what appears to be a 32′, 46′ or larger tank of sharks hanging on the wall. Now that would look cool !
09/02/2009 at 11:00 AM
Have you tried downloading Aquavita/Aqua-whatever from the PSN? I have it – it’s ok, wish it looked more realistic.
September 1st, 2009 at 11:04 PM
i agree captn… or like a jungle theme with monkeys and bushes and things that move..more or less monkeys..o… n lions…!!
September 1st, 2009 at 11:11 PM
A few free themes on Qore and it’ll be paying for itself. To be honest that would probably be the only way that I’ll get one of this new stylish themes.
September 2nd, 2009 at 5:39 PM
@Natie When you subscribe to Qore they give you free premium themes?
