Even though Sony’s value-packed PS3 is already a great deal at $299. It doesn’t hurt to save even more money. We’ve found a deal where you can score a PS3 Slim for $199.
Sony offers a Sony branded VISA credit card through SonyStyle.com. Right now, Sony is giving a $100 credit on your first qualifying purchase using your new Sony card. For your purchase to qualify, the item needs to be at least $299 (fortunately, the same price as the PS3 Slim).
All you have to do is, sign up for the Sony credit card offer through SonyStyle.com. If instantly approved, you can order your PS3 slim right then and there from SonyStyle. If you are approved but not instantly, you’ll have to wait for your card to arrive in the mail. But once you have the card in your hand, you will be able to head over to any local retailer and pick up your PS3 there.
You will receive a $100 credit on your first credit card statement, resulting in the PS3 slim only being $199. From there you have two options, pay off the $199 and cancel the card, or keep the card and you got yourself a Sony branded credit card to show off to your fellow PS3 owners.

Niiiiiiiiiice. Way to rock the system. Now, if only I could find a $300 pack of games that I really really want, and counted as one item… since I don’t need a new console.

You have a typo in your third paragraph “But once you have th card in your hand…”

I did this deal for the 40gb a year ago, I have no regrets. Although I believe you have to buy the ps3 at a sonystyle store not any retailer.

Can you buy the refurbed 40GB PS3 with this card? That would mean $219 – $100 = $119!!!

Too bad I already got my Slim. Oh well, I don’t like credit cards anyways. If you can’t save for it, you probably don’t need it.

Are there any down sides to getting the card and then canceling it? I’ve never gotten into credit cards.

The downside is that it could have a negative impact on your credit score. You shouldn’t get credit cards only to get free/cheaper stuff.

What’s the annual fee on the credit card?
Edit: nvm – it says no annual fee.

This is how I purchased my 60GB. Total purchase price after shipping and tax? $375.00 plus 1 year same as cash.

I bought two 80G PS3 using this method with two separate cards last year. The method works but make sure you read the fine print on the first statement. If you delinquent on the first payment whether you choose to pay the total or the minimum installment, you will forfeit the $100 dollars credit automatically. It took me many calls with the SONY card manger to get my credit back because I was late on one of the monthly payment. In my case, it took them two months to put the credit back on my card. Thankfully, there is no interest for the first 12 months.

It will match my Sony branded underpants.
