Headshots & Friendly Fire: Round 2
Boom!! Headshot!
- Cooperative Play – the “go alone and shoot everything that moves” style of multiplayer has gotten a little stale. It is still a rewarding experience to teabag noobs in Killzone 2, but I find co-op multiplayer to be a far better experience. The new resistance 2 co-op had you team up with 7 buddies to complete various tasks. Uncharted 2 has a very similar co-op campaign, except they add cooperative platforming as well. In both games, enemies attack you from all sides, something you can’t do in single player, because it requires the team to communicate with you and tell you when you need to move your ass. This kind of difficulty that is impossible when you are alone, but can be very easy when in a group is very fun, and I made more friends during the Beta of the Uncharted 2 co-op play, than I did in 4 months of playing Killzone 2.
- Game/Headset Bundles – You have to love these bundles as they just present such a huge value for gamers, even if the game is trash.. Yes I am looking at you Socom Confrontation. Usually a headset by itself will run you 50 bucks new, with the game at its usual 60 bucks. Seperate you are looking at dropping $110 bones but together in a bundle, well that gets you the game for 10 bucks. If you were lucky enough to purchase the Socom bundle, and I feel horrible saying that, you got the official Sony headset which is in my opinion one of the best accessories that Sony has put out in a while. If you don’t have one, you really need to purchase it. These bundles are also a great way to get more headsets into the hands of gamers who might otherwise never purchase one because we all know that online is better with headsets.. and a mute button. So listen up Sony, bundle an Official headset with Uncharted 2, the game is going to sell like crazy and would get more PS3 owners mic’d up, which is an ongoing issue on the PSN.
- Progress in Singleplayer Gets You Rewards in Multiplayer, and vice-versa – Almost all the games released so far have had the singleplayer and multiplayer experience be completely separate from each other. It’s almost as if they were completely different games on the same disc. Having an incentive to play both singleplayer and multiplayer would make games more complete. For example, some multiplayer weapons or power-ups should be unlocked by making progress in single player, and some single player power-ups should be unlocked by making progress in multiplayer. I’m not saying that every game needs both singleplayer and multiplayer, but games that do decide to have both should find someway to connect the player to both experiences. When Playing Red Faction: Guerrilla, I never once entered multiplayer because there was so much to do in single player. Now if I got notices saying I unlocked a special weapon in multiplayer, I might be more inclined to go check it out. After all, if you can’t get people to play one aspect of your game, then it’s just wasted resources that could have gone to something else.
- Batman: Arkham Asylum Rescues our Youth - Spiderman, Iron-Man, The Hulk, The Fantastic Four, Wolverine and so on. All of these have two things in common. First they are all someone I grew up reading, watching and playing. Secondly, none of them have had a game of recent memory to really portray that character the way it should be. None of them have had a game in recent memory that was actually awesome, that made you feel like you were when you were a kid. That was until Batman: Arkham Asylum released. This game made you feel more like a Super Hero than any game of recent memory, even more than InFamous which I still enjoy playing. Not only did Batman feel like a badass, but every nemesis of his was portrayed perfectly. The Joker was dead on with Mark Hammil, Poison Ivy was her usual seductive self, Harley Quinn was flat crazy, Killer Croc, Scarecrow, The Riddler and so on. The attention to detail in this game was amazing, from the way Batman pounded enemies to the way he glided over the Asylum. All the gadgets were there and they felt great. This is how I have always pictured playing as Batman would be, its how I always imagined fighting against the Joker would be. Please take notice Spiderman, pay attention Hulk, this is how a super hero game is made. I know you guys can be better, so stop reading this, call up Rocksteady and ask them really nicely to do your next game. Yes I am just now mentioning their name but Rocksteady deserves so much praise for their hard work and diligence in bringing to life this icon. They really did their homework and made this an experience that should not be missed by anyone.

I so agree with the “Progress in Singleplayer Gets You Rewards in Multiplayer, and vice-versa”. I’m looking forward to see how Uncharted 2 does this. I know you’ll get experience from the singleplayer, which also happened in Resistance 2.
Once and for all, Spider-man, web of shadows was a good game. Anyone who says otherwise is just burnt-out on Spider-Man.
“Sorry PS3 Owners, Valkyria goes PSP”
I agree that it would be better to have a PS3 sequel of Valkyria Chronicles. They just downgraded themselves into a small hand held console. I too doesn’t have a PSP, and I felt to be left hanging in the air. I feel that a full sequel should be done to the PS3.
“Sorry, You Can’t Pause/Skip this Cut scene”
Yeah, I also hate that you could not pause/skip during a cutscence. I believe that games should evolve in a way that giving you (gamers) more option. I just don’t get why we all feel the have to go restroom break/smoke break in a cutscene. It’s just funny. lol.
“Game/Headset Bundles”
I bought my End War Headset bundle for $40 at Target. And after 3months they sold it at a clearance price of $29.
“Progress in Singleplayer Gets You Rewards in Multiplayer, and vice-versa”
Single player modes should be more rewarding. It would be great if people who like single player modes or doesn’t have internet access to also earn points. Much like GuildWars (my favorite MMO), if you like exploring, the game would recognize/reward you as a explorer and same if you like PVP.
“Cooperative Play”
).
This would probably be best in Uncharted 2, and MAG (the must haves
“Batman: Arkham Asylum Rescues our Youth”
I agree about the batman game but the recent wolverine game was also awesome. You can’t deny that, right?
I agree with the Batman piece. But I say whatever company that can do a Superman game right, is a company that shall be worshipped!
Resistance 2 you marked down for a 4 player co-op???? Resistance 2 has 8 player co-op
I agree about games going from the PS3 to PSP – it’s ridiculous. It’s would seem to be a terrible business decision – you’ve got an audience built up from the first game, many of whom would love to play the second one, but they can’t. And when you’re used to playing the first one in high def on your TV, who the hell wants to play the second one on a 4″ screen? Stupid.
@kirboz,
I thought that they captured the character wolverine good in the recent game but i felt the game to be pretty dull, not enough substance to it, especially when compared to Arkham Asylum
@ Cameron
l agree with the batman part, but the wolverine origins is an awesome game as well You also forgot to add on the list is a cut scene selection, l mean some games don’t have that and l would love to see the cut scenes again without the playing the single player again. Such games for example are MGS 4 and Crisis Core
@wtGp
wolverine origins wasn’t that good of a game. it was ok, but not great,
@Trexman
so l’m guessing you don’t like God of War
@WtGp,
I would not compare the two. I think God of War just has an air of epic to it that Wolverine could not duplicate. You didn’t have the epic boss battles in Wolverine that you did in God of War. Plus everything put into the game, I agree that Wolverine was really not that solid of a title, though it was bloody.
@wtGp
wolverine felt nothing like god of war.
@Cameron true about the boss battles in wolverine but the sentinel made up for that and besides there were hardly any bosses in the 1st God of War games as well.
@Trexman it indeed felt like God of War.
I loved playing through batman over the weekend, except the fact I was able to play through it in less than three days. Granted it was not the Halo 3 experience of 6 hours and I’m done, but it also wasn’t the 2-4 weeks of any Zelda or even MGS4. I have noticed that I tend to play for much longer periods in growing older than when I had a bed time and school the next day. Is that the only reason I am beating games so much faster now or is it really they just aren’t being made that long anymore. now I was very fulfilled when I finished the batman story line and am still pumped to go beat the few challenges I have left. Back on topic they truly hit the bulls eye with Batman. If only the other games can sit down and make their own in-depth storyline with superheroes of our past and don’t use the corresponding blockbuster movie as a crutch to make what has always resulted in a crap game.
Something I would love to happen either in a DLC or maybe headlining his own game (with supporting villans of course) would be to have more Scarecrow action. The mind F before the spotlight sections I felt were some of the most fun I had in the game.
@wtGp Where in Wolverine can you get-off two bare breasted chicks for points?
