Ever wonder why a certain title comes exclusively to a console? Is it because of power, price, or userbase? How about the online service? Thankfully, developer United Front Games has discussed why they chose the PS3.
In a nice twist, United Front Games will release ModNation Racers exclusively for PS3 because PlayStation Network is free. Meaning everyone can play the innovative racing title, without paying a monthly or yearly fee.
“As we were coming up with what we were doing and what we wanted to create, we spoke to some different publishers and immediately there was this sort of synergy between us and Sony. And in terms of the hardware, the power of the PS3 and the PSN network being free – that we could make sure that everyone who buys a copy of the game is able to get online for free and then share all this content – were really important for us.”
Are you excited for ModNation Racers as much as we are? Post your thoughts about the title in the comment section below!
That’s a really good point that I never thought about, cause if you were stuck with a bad online service or with one you had to pay to use, how much of the things you create could be shared? Just not as much in the end as you would if anyone could access it.
the magic word is “free” and who doesn’t like free stuff
This game is going to rock.
Call me crazy but I’m really looking forward to this game more than GT5.
Don’t hit me now.
For freeee? Jk. I have a ps3. I love it and it loves me! I can’t wait for this game!
i have high expectations for this game, and rightfully so. it’s setting up to be a blockbuster.
This is game is going to rock! In lack of a better word.
I can’t wait for this game. Top 10 on my wanted list.
Oh crap, I’ve always thought Modnation Racers is developed by Media Molecule. Guess I’m wrong >_>
No doubt LBP and the Play, Create, Share genre were also factors in the deal.
I wonder if games like these will eventually pressure MIcrosoft to drop the online fees. I mean if Sony ever does roll out cross game voice chat what will they really have left? I can already twitter and probably facebook from my PS3, plus youtube, and netflix, hulu, and a million other things. Most of the stuff is free, most of the fixes are cheaper than a 1 year supply of Xbox Live Gold membership, so you always seem to come out ahead on the PS3 if you are an educated consumer.
hell yea i grew up playing chocobo racing on ps1, so im pumped for this game. also from what i read seem like lot of developers like working with sony alot more than microsoft
agree with MakaiOokami, if sony keeps plugging away and adding new and different concepts behind their games and online service without charging, it would be hard to pay for a service with limited abilities, but i guess the payment of the gold membership pays for exclusive DLC that we dont have. on the other side i would rather have new and innovate games and free online support for my exclusive games…..other than that i am very excited about this game its a mario kart meets lbp, the ability to make your own courses sounds very interesting, hope you are able to upload them online for many hours of play just as LBP has done.
i love the way this game is starting to look.
@Dre i’m still playing Chocobo Racing from time to time. lol. It’s actually my most favorite racing game of all time. lol. I actually want them to release it as a PSOne classic but after the announcement of ModNation Racers, I could careless. lol.
hello …
this concept has proved itself with LBP, now alongside of free online services that keeps getting better & better …
moreover don’t forget that PS3 is still a crack virgin, a great ROI for any developers …
thank you for bringing us another good game.
cheers!
Getting LBP GOTY for this game’s beta, just seems amazing!
I’m not usually interested in stuff with cartoon characters, but the course creation feature in this game is really intersting. May have to pick it up. I bet it will be crazy fun playing on some user-created courses online.
The first track I’ll ever make will probably encourage cheating and going off-road a lot. Oh, and hitting sheep.
Thank god they chose the PS3 cause this game looks like so much fun. Its like a LBP cart racer with missles and destruction and sheep!! This game will be around for a long time when it comes out and will hopefully have all sorts of great DLC. I’m excited for it.
Well that really does make sense if you make it free Devs will come.
I grew up playing with Hot Wheels, I think that’s one of the reasons it seems so appealing to me.
I keep a few cars on a shelf in my office now, there out of the way, but still there
Not interested in the least, my girlfriend will have 2 make me buy this one.
