When a zombie outbreak hits America’s new capital of entertainment, Fortune City, it is every man and woman for themselves. But some adapt better than others to survival on Fortune City’s zombie infested strip. Spurned on by the paternal instinct to protect his daughter, Chuck Greene is one such man.
Dead Rising 2 builds on the combat system of Dead Rising where anything picked up is a potential weapon, by considerably increasing the number of items Chuck will find in Fortune City’s casinos, bars and shops. Just like the original, Chuck will be able to make use of items that range from ‘traditional’ weapons like guns and swords to the more improvised such as roulette wheels, croupier sticks, wheelchairs, stuffed marlins and more! But Dead Rising 2 takes combat one stage further with a set of truly unique weapons including the paddle-saw (two chain-saws attached to either end of a canoe paddle) and the self-explanatory drill bucket.
Like millions of Americans, Chuck is gripped by the TV sensation that is Terror is Reality. Hosted by the flamboyant Tyrone King and ably assisted by his two glamorous co-hosts, Terror is Reality pits ordinary members of the public against an arena full of zombies with a simple challenge – kill more zombies than your opponents and stay alive. The lucky winner will collect big money and the chance to come back and secure even greater prizes.
Like a modern day gladiatorial contest, those lucky enough to get a grandstand seat urge the contestants to spill more zombie blood, with over the top takedowns greeted by rapturous applause and the promise of slow motion replays on the arena’s jumbotron. So, what is it that has forced Chuck to risk his life, is he trying to recapture the fame of his motocross days, does he have a reason to hate zombies, or is it simply the lure of big money?
Dead Rising 2 allows players to experience the carnage of Terror is Reality with a series of multiplayer challenges for up to four players via online play. Whether you’re jumping into giant hamster balls and mowing down the undead; seeing who can place the most drill buckets on zombies’ heads, or taking to the arena on a motorbike with chainsaws for handlebars, the challenges will feature exactly the kind of over-the-top action and humor that Dead Rising is known for. Adding to the competitive nature of these events is the ability to prevent your opponents from scoring, ensuring fierce rivalries as competitors fight dirty to claim victory.
Dead Rising 2 is being developed by Canadian developer Blue Castle Games in close collaboration with Capcom. A number of members from the original Dead Rising team will be working alongside Blue Castle Games throughout the development process, including Capcom’s global head of research and development, Keiji Inafune, who as the game’s Producer, will play an active role in the project.
Playable versions (single and multiplayer) of Dead Rising 2 were debuted to media from around the world, exclusively on Xbox 360 at a dedicated event hosted by Capcom, in conjunction with Microsoft, in Shibuya, Tokyo on September 25th, 2009.

meh…I do not understand the hype behind this game. I played the first on my xbox 360 and it was extremely repetitive. But hay, that just me. I think people were only hyping this game because it was an xbox 360. And now it getting hype because it no longer an xbox 360 exclusive.

yup ditto. fun for … 15 minutes? maybe. I have a friend whos really excited about it, kept talking and talking and talking… It made me wanna take a nap.

I think using hype negatively in place of the term popularity is a cheap way of criticizing something you don’t like that a lot of people do.
Of course it not being exclusive adds to popularity, millions of people that haven’t been able to play this will soon be able to, That probably has more to do with it than the game itself.

How many xbox 360 fanboy do you know that only hype the original game because it was an xbox 360 exclusive and was not on the Playstation 3 or Nintendo Wii? Answers? A lot of them. At the same time, PS3 fanboys where saying this game sucks and did not want this garbage on the Playstation 3. This was back in 2006 when this game came out.
Fast-forward to 2009 when the game is coming out on both the Playstation 3 and xbox 360 and you get PS3 fanboy hyping this game up, not because its a good game, but because it no longer an xbox 360 exclusive. While, the xbox 360 fanboys are saying stuff like the PS3 port will be holding this game back and and the game look like “shit.”
Same thing with Final Fantasy XIII. PS3 fanboy was hyping this up to be the best JRPG of all time, the best game ever, xbox 360 killer, and what not. Xbox 360 users was saying this game was going to flop and suck. Now that the game is coming to the xbox 360, Xbox 360 fanboys are hyping this game up, not because it going to be a good JRPG, but because its no longer a Playstation 3 exclusive.
You fail to understand that there is three types of hype games this generation.
Type 1: Hype a game because it pushing the industry forward or something new and innovate in the case of The Last Guardian, Heavy Rain, LittleBigPlanet, and Mass Effect.
Type 2: Hype a game because it is no longer exclusive to a single system. Games such as GTA IV, Dead Rising 2, Final Fantasy XIII, and MGS Rising.
Type 3: Hyping a game up because it is exclusive to a single system. Games such as Dead Rising, Uncharted, LBP, Heavy Rain, and Halo.

Why do you think games such as Too Human, Haze, and LAIR was hype as if they were these amazing games? It was because they were exclusive to either the PS3 or xbox 360. Gameplay, story, characters, and other factors that makes a game good didn’t matter because it was exclusive. How many times do you see people write “That right bots, another AAA exclusive games for the PS3″ or “That right droids, another AAA exclusive for the Xbox 360″?

@Hater Hey, Lair wasn’t really that bad.
I thought this game was like a survival horror. Why not name it “Terror in Reality” instead of Dead Rising? They made it complicated. lol. The concept fails to me.

LAIR was good with the update that allow us to control the dragon with the analog sticks and the story was someone engaging. But the general view about LAIR is that its a bad game.
