I actually thought about doing that as well. I had many customers ask if I could fix their computers after hours at a discount. It could have been very profitable but when I took the job I signed an agreement that stated I would not engage in any business that would present a conflict of interests.

damn… yeah they tried to rip me when I bought my HDTV… trying to tell me I’ll get a better picture if I pay $600 more for LCD instead of plasma (a huge lie… contrast ratio and refresh rate on plasma are 6-10 times better), and then tried to get me to pay $300 to calibrate the tv. I did my research, bought a $20 blu-ray calibration disc off amazon, and did it myself. PS, that was a waste of money too, the only setting changed was contrast, from 50 to 48. woopty doo. I pity the poor saps that get swindled by this, it totally negates the fantastic price drop.

When I use to work in Home Theater at Bestbuy, I would set up home theaters for customers on the side. I’d usually charge about $50, depending on how far I had to drive, which is a lot better than the $150 Bestbuy was charging.

I was a Geek Squad supervisor for a couple of years. $129.99 is the standard trip charge. If you wanted a Geek Squad agent to walk up to your front door and knock on it, the price would be $129.99. So basically the PS3 update is free. Of course while the agent (I hate saying that) is there, he will try to sell you additional services.

A friend of mine works in a support job, and he says the number one problem with electronics & pc’s etc., are the fact that the unit is not plugged in.

so for some people this might be a good option, I just think the price is unfair.

Oh I always thought it was a mistake when I saw “let geek squad install it” on the ps3 software. Now I’m not so sure! Do people pay to have best buy employee put a disc inside the machine and press play?
