A dream may become a reality soon enough. There is a possibility of Team ICO’s PS2 classics, Shadow of the Colossus and ICO being re-released on the PS3, Fumito Ueda recently revealed. The news has everyone excited, but this new development is enough to make heads explode.
Fumito Ueda, designer of the upcoming The Last Guardian, recently spoke on an ICO Collection containing both Shadow of the Colossus and ICO. This would be similar to the announced God of War Collection (which contains both God of War and God of War II). Now, Ueda has revealed that the ICO Collection topic may be a hot topic at an upcoming meeting with Sony.
“I do have an interest in that. Next week, I’ll have a meeting [about the possibility] … But it might not be so easy, because, with both titles we really stretched the limits of the PS2. It’s complex. So it’s not such an easy transfer to the PS3. But I want to discuss it.”
We’ll keep you updated on any new developments in the possibility of an “ICO Collection” as they happen.

Personally, i feel anyone who wants these games to be ported, represent everything unwanted in the game community =\
before you just flame me like crazy, let me explain…
though the added features will be nice… IE both games on 1 disc, updated graphics, trophies, etc
A lot of these things, are what makes the current state of gaming so dismal… If they make this game, it will prove that people care more about graphics than anything else… Yeah their good titles, but I beat em on the ps2, and if i want to play them, i got a original ps3, or can grab my ps2… the other big thing that this shows is, if they edit graphics of “better” titles and rerelease them for nearly full price, they can make a killing.
in addition, you really think about it and this is a quite common action… sadly if you keep supporting this, we might get some fancy remakes… but I rather play “the last guardian” sooner, than it get delayed because some idiots want to play a remake as much/more =\
Your opinion seems very selfish and self centred tbh, victor.
What’s wrong with re-releasing classic titles like these for fans of the series to add to their collection, along with giving those who missed them on the PS2 a chance to play them or even those that aren’t as lucky as you to have a backwards compatible PS3?
I’m also not sure why you think this would attribute to the “dismal” state of gaming, maybe you could elaborate on that for me?
The Last Guardian isn’t going to be delayed over it either, I mean look at God of War, it wasn’t that long ago that getting both games on one disc was just an option in a PS blog poll and it’s now just weeks away from release with GOW3 not having been effected at all. There’s no way Ueda would allow remaking these games for the PS3 to delay The Last Guardian.
I’m just really not sure where you’re getting these opinions and worries from tbh.
Please make it
never played them before but would like to if its released in Europe and priced right, like 40 euros:)
actually can anyone tell how much is GoW collection priced?
thanks
@marcindpol
Its 40$ US i think but you will have to import it because it wont be available for Europe i think well not for now
@ victorinox
Please explain how wanting PS2 games on a PS3 makes ppl only care about graphics? If that was the case, ppl would be clamouring for FULL remakes in PS3 code, made and designed specifically for PS3. But, as it stands, ppl just want the originals ported onto a blu-ray disc, warts n all, just with a clearer, crisper screen resolution to fit on their hd televisions.
I still have both games in their original forms (PS2) and upon playing them recently, couldnt get over how jaggy and grainy they both looked once upscaled to 1080i. All i would like, is the SAME graphics as before, just tarted up nicely to look less violent on the eye is all!
And what makes you think that the programmers for TLG would have to take time out to do this project thus causing a delay? God of War 3 has been in production from the moment God of War 2 was in production- a fact held true from the mouth of David Jaffe himself! In future, i suggest you think about what you’re going to write here before you actually do!
I’d love the chance to be able to play these games. I missed them first time around, and buying them at collector’s prices is no fun! Also, my PS2 is broken and I also don’t want to pay the $100 to get a new one, so basically PS2 games are off-limits until I can play them on my PS3!
hello …
i want this collection for several reasons:
1 – I will buy The Last Guardian !!!
2 – I never played ICO or SOTC before, i didn’t even know about ICO, but had SOTC on PS2 & never could play it before my console died on me, all games were distributed with friends & mostly my PS3 is a Japanese NTSJ with BC while my PS2 was PAL system.
3 – I check reviews of both games & now want them badly.
4 – 40US$ not a bad price for such good games, considering it’s a first buy !!!
I want this collection please! thank you!
cheers!
This collection was my first thought upon hearing about the GoW collection. So exciting to see it getting closer to coming true.
Victor, even if they are making a killing, it’s still a win-win situation. We can probably assume this collection will be about $40 like the GoW collection. If you can find just Ico for that price, you got lucky.
ive already said this but this is definitely the highest requested that ive heard or read about… since the gow collection was announced.
not interested. I LOVED SotC, but not enough to re-buy it.
I think The Last Guardian will be a disappointment for me(unless there are collosi the size of buildings). Making SOTC available on the PS3 will make up for it!
how is it not a good thing to get together and discuss the possibilities of re-releasing two great
games? A new generation will get to experience some wonderful games, and gamers with more experience can revisit an old friend.
never got the chance to play them so this is a perfect opportunity for me if they do it
Bring it on I would buy it even though I have a launch 60 and SOTC.
@ victorinox
VERY good point.. but people will bash you just because they want these re-release.
@xST-ANGERx
think about your statement… just because its cleaner and under the PS3 code does not mean it will be enhanced for HD resolution beyond Antialias and screen size…why? its not a new project or remodeling of the old graphics like SSF2THD.
and everyone under the ‘”a the new generation will experience this game” banner, needs there head checked. I am very pro for ICO being made into a game but not happy if out of the blue every other game starts getting there own.. last thing we need is OLD games just getting a quick visual cleaning and not re-done graphically. Victorniox didn’t explain everything but anyone with common knowledge should see what hes referring to.
@ SolidCake
old gamers can revisit an old friend.
? seriously..If there really your friends there still around.. and ICO/SOTC is a single player game.
@ victorinox and shadowjin – I understand where you’re coming from but I just want to ask you then if you want Sony to stop releasing PSOne titles for PSN?? I know they don’t do any graphic over-hauls for the PSOne titles, but I think most people who are interested in these collections just want the games that they can no longer play and if they happen to come with slightly upgraded graphics then that’s all the better. I think Sony’s new plan for for re-releasing some of the great PS2 games is fantastic and doesn’t hurt the gaming industry at all. For me it gives me a chance to replay some of the great PS2 games that I can no longer play on my PS3. For others, maybe they never got to play them and they deserve a chance. If you were a new PS3 owner would you want to play God of War III having never gotten a chance to play the first two games??? I don’t think you, you would be missing out on so much of the story.
If Sony starts to make collections like these for every game that no one really cares about then I will be more likely to join in on your hatred of these new Collections, but right now I’m loving it.
@ giese095
i don’t have a hatred, i think your reading to much into my response.. i approve of re release on the PSN not every single game on a disk. PSN or disk re-release dont have any improvement . Ive said this in a few comments in various PSL articles. I could care less but keep these games in the PSN and bypass convert everything into a disk.
Thats something that needs to be taken into consideration, its a simple collectible. I cant answer for Victor, so im responding to my own opinion. reading a few comments in various places most are under the impression that you are getting a HUGE remake, when your not.
