The PSPgo, which has been officially launched as of today, has spurred many of mixed reactions since its debut on the stage of Sony’s 2009 E3 Press Conference. The premium $249.99 price, along with the lack of the UMD drive were among the biggest concerns. Now, with the massive list of launch titles for the PSPgo, and the tethering feature that arrived with last night’s firmware 6.10 update, comes another great feature that is sure to help wash away any concerns you may have about purchasing the PSPgo.
The PSPgo features built-in bluetooth tech which can pair with various other bluetooth enabled devices, such as a wireless phone, or a bluetooth headset. If you own a PS3 you may know of its bluetooth functionality extends to its Dualshock 3 controllers which are also bluetooth enabled. Because of this, the PSPgo can “pair” with a Dualshock 3 and use it to control the PSPgo.
The video below shows how this functionality works, but can be taken even further than demonstrated. Taking this feature to the next level, you could connect your PSPgo to your HDTV via a component cable, making the PSPgo a makeshift home console.
Check out the PSPgo/Dualshock 3 demonstration video below:
That’s just awsome!!!!!!! It’s conforting enough to play on House
I knew about the controller, but I hadn’t even thought about hooking it up to the TV. Duh. Looks like I’ll be playing some Peace Walker on the big screen.
wow you’d think the load times would be cut down a bit!
That’s nuts!
Wow! If you set it up with your tv, it would be a nice way to play Valkyria Chronicles 2, GT PSP, and Dissidia FF. Now, i want a PSP Go.
ok, that’s definitely awesome
Yes now I have a reason to bring my Dualshock controller around
That’s cool, but their is a problem. If I was going to be sitting still with a DS3 in my hands I might as well play Wipeout HD.
^ Yea, it’s a good thing Wipeout isn’t the only game available for PSP then, isn’t it? -_-
nice that’s a cool feature
This plus Blazblue is a very cool setup. Looked at these today….what a tiny box they come in. I really don’t have a need for one since my current PSP works great but it’s cool for new comers and upgraders.
I’m impressed, very cool feature.
OMG that is jus stupid! What the fuck is the point of being able to use a dualshock AND connect it up to a tv? My suggestion is- buy a fucking PS2! As if ur gonna be sitting on a bus or a train, take ur pspgo out and then sit there with it in ur lap while u use a ds3? And whats the point of plugging it up to ur tv? 2 totally useless and detrimental features is what they are! If i owned a pspgo, i certainly wouldnt be carring a ps3 controller round with me, and id play mgs4 in proper hd on a proper tv, rather than play blocky badly textured psp games that are poorly upscaled to fit on the screen! Any1 that thinks these 2 features are cool, are totally missing the point of the pspgo being a portable media device!
The point is better control in response 2 consumers’ missing the second analog stick. And if ur not lovin the PSP graphics than whats the point of having one. Your kinda soundin like a Xboxfanboy thats downing the PS3 features as pointless when we all know that the true power of PS3 / PSP are their ability 2 do a assload of crap. Not all of it is desired by all but atleast some of us are getting hear and getting some results. Not saying ur a fanboy, Im just sayin. It would be awesome if they had an attachment peripheral that would plug it up 2 the controller like the keypad(kinda the view in the pic above but connected).
Wait, so in a way, the PSP Go! does come with dual sticks?
hooking it up to a TV is the only way I could play it. I have an original PSP (1000?) and I could never enjoy it due to the screen size.
I guess I am getting old, because I recall playing the old black&white Game Boy without any vision issues.
@Natiej85
I have owned a PS3 since 00.00.01 hundred hours 23rd march 2007! I love my PS3 more than anything! Read what i wrote you fool! For a start NO psp game is goin to support dual sticks i can guarantee it, and if 1 does, 1 wont control the camera like u can in socom confrontation for example. And not once did i knock the psp graphics! What i said was, that hooking a NON hd piece of kit up to a hd tv produces grainy, badly anyi0aliased graphics. Where in my post did i knock the graphical power of the PS3 or the PSP? I was just pointing out the utter uselessness of the 2 features stated here.
If u buy a psp go, chances are u have a PS3 or a PS2, so why on earth would u not want to play on those and plug ur pspgo into ur tv instead?
But hey, if pointless silly little features give you your kicks, then please do carry on. But don’t EVER use the word Xboxfanboy in a reply to me! I hate Micro$haft and everything they stand for, and thats nothing to do with fucking console wars. Im 31 not 13.
Is it me or does that controller look a little off?
@ steven,
I was going to say the same thing. Forget how cool it is, if it’s laggy controls, it’s bust.
now my real reason for posting…
@ St. Anger
I hate people who knock free upgrades and things that, unless they clutter the existence of what you’ve payed for, are free features that COULD be utilized but don’t HAVE TO BE. The controller pairing is NOT ESSENTIAL, and since you obviously only read what you want to read, allow me to inform you that Sony has released information on Blu-ray support to the PSPgo, which means that grainy textures, and shitty output is not an issue. Furthermore, i can NOT even begin to explain how many times i have played a game on the road, out and about, whatever and become hooked on it (Crisis core, GOW: CoO, MGS:PO, Pokemon and fucking Super Mario land for the GAMEBOY) And then i catch myself at my house playing said game, in my room on my bed.
Wouldn’t it be nice if I could, say, hook up that game to my tv and then play contently instead of in my “PSP bubble”? It’s for convenience, and It’s an OPTIONAL ENDEAVOR. It’s not something mandatory.
This is why I hate people who complain about Home. It’s FREE. If it’s not for you, then move on. Do with your PS3 what you WANT to , what you bought it for.
