They haven't even worked out all of the kinks trying to use the 50gb blue ray disks let alone a 320gb. And if they ever get this out to the gaming community, both the 360 and PS3 will probably be on their next generation cycles, at least the 360 will so its not even a comparison at this point.
And as mentioned before, DLC isn't going anywhere. There's too much money to be made after the release of the game. That's the business model. Do you honeslty think every single map pack you have for games 1,2, 3 years into the game were availalbe the first day the game was actually released? No. DLC gives developers the opportunity to extend the life cycle of a game in some form or fashion, but more importantly, gives them an opportunity to make additional revenue.
Keep your shirt on ladies, this 320gb blue ray disk means nothing for the here and now, and its not that big of deal at least not for the gaming community in the future.
So don't hold your breath on this one, (unless you're a PS3 fanboy...)

You guys can’t be serious. I mean really. A lot is just work done after the game is shipped, you can't put that on the disc. And all that space doesn't mean devs are gonna put in another year and a half on each game. Think about the delays and how long some games are taking, you don't really want them to take another 6 months because they can. If devs go wild though, it might be the end of DLC cause they ran out of ideas filling up the disc haha

What makes some people think all DLC should be on disc? They are planning a 1tb version by 2013 and the 400gb by 2008-2010.

cool.. you are aware theres a 400gb version right? made by pioneer and can be played back from your PS3 since the end of 2008 , 16 separate layers on a single-side Blu-ray disc with 25 GB storage capacity on each layer, which totals 400 GB. disc is the same as those for the PUH of blank BD discs, and therefore the Pioneer discs can be read on BD players that includes the PS3. It would show that it would stay for quite some time. It may not be the mainstream format now, but it will eventually. It would be interesting to see if MS would jump to be Blu-ray. If they won't make a new format, they would be forced to put Blu-ray in their next console.
And yeah, DLCs are mostly trying to milk more moneys from the consumers. Look at Capcom (probably the greediest), You would need to pay for a code to unlock the alternate costumes in SFIV. Take note that it is already in the disc. They just want more of your money. You could not see costumer value in this. This goes the same on Resident Evil 5 (It shouldn't have been named RE 5).

This is looking really good for sony. In regards with their Blu-ray Format. Any DLC out there for Multiplatform games can fit on the current Blu ray disc we use with it's original game. DLC content won't fit in with Original games on DVD's. So here's what developers say to themselves when they encounter this
Dev1 "hmmm... these little perks/maps/characters won't fit on DVD's but will on Blu ray"
Supervisor "then don't even add it on Blu ray and sell it separately"
Dev2 "But this can fit on Blu ray disc's what's the point of removing it, that's not fair to our consumers using that format"
Supervisor "...hmmm... You're FIRED!!!!"

In most cases DLC is only done to squeeze more pennies out of the consumer. Just because a developer can use a disc that massive, doesn't mean that they will fill it when they know they could earn extra money through DLC for extra items. Story driven games will benefit mainly from discs like this. Things like sports games and fighters will only ever use so much space compared to cinematic games like MGS4 or Uncharted 1 & 2, thus leaving the door open for DLC at a later date.

I agree with MakaiOokami. The reason why DLC exists is because some companies work on products after the game's release, like Disgaea 3 where they asked the fans what characters they wanted in the games, adding extra modes and new cars like Burnout Paradise, Time Savers like BlazBlue and Burnout Paradise, forcing you to pay for stuff they locked out of the game to improve profibility like Skate 2, Extending the life of the game with new maps and weapons that weren't able to make it to the game originally because of time constraints as Killzone 2 had to balance out the Flame Thrower and the Bow gun, and get the new maps readily designed, or even just trying to cash in by selling useless crap like music that only works in game like Soul Calibur 4
DLC won't go away, no way no how. Games that use up those high capacities are going to be mostly uncompressing the audio in lossless format as well as doing uncompressed video. The only thing these disks can and WILL do is prevent us from having 2 disks for tons and tons of games. Like Star Ocean, Eternal Sonata, etc... So while they're getting 2-3 disks per large RPG we'll be getting 1.

DLC isn’t going to go away because of capacity.
