While the latter is arguable, there’s no denying that the gameplay mechanics set forth were fresh and exciting. And before I get flamed for it, I want to make it clear that all points were deducted for a complete lack of fun. A game should be fun well before its anything else, or the supposed challenge just isn't worth bothering with.

I wish I could have edited that last post, I wanted to say the score should have been 3/5, or a 6/10 on the new scale. isPermaLink="false">http://playstationlifestyle.net/?p=45703#comment-94047

Now that I have gotten this game, and played it for quite a bit (although honestly, I haven't gotten very far, beat the first boss and checked out the other worlds), I can honestly say I disagree with much of this review and the opinions posted here. I know most people will think its because of the "difficulty", but its not really that at all. The combat, which is 90% of what makes this game what it is, is incredibly clunky and stiff feeling. Its also quite boring. Run around everywhere with your shield up, and upon blocking an attack, counter while they recover. Then block. Then counter. Rinse and repeat. Thats all it is, and its really quite lame. Even with spells, you just do the same thing, but from a distance, until the enemies close that gap. It all seems very dull to me - but then the lacking check points and complete loss of all progress upon dying seems to make it just frustrating, rather than "difficult". Really it becomes an extremely long run of trial and error, to the point where you don't actually get good at this game, you just end up memorizing where every enemy is because you've died so many times. It certainly doesn't take much skill when the combat is so limited, and I doubt I'll finish it for these reasons. Frankly I wanted a challenge, but this challenge is to stay awake because its so freakin' boring. Arg.

Now that I have gotten this game, and played it for quite a bit (although honestly, I haven’t gotten very far, beat the first boss and checked out the other worlds), I can honestly say I disagree with much of this review and the opinions posted here.
