The PSPgo, just released just a week ago, has received almost universal appraise for it’s simplistic, yet sleek look; and giving an alternative for the more casual gamer. Sony has revealed some surprising numbers that really are a testimony to the popularity of the handheld.

In only three days since the October 1st release, the PSPgo boosted U.S. PSP sales 300% week-over-week.

“The launch of PSP Go has generated strong consumer interest in the overall PSP platform and the PlayStation Network’s digital content offering,” Patrick Seybold, SCEA corporate communications director said. Also the PSPgo has accounted for a “significant increase” in North American PlayStation Network revenue. PSP digital game sales were 200% in the region.

Seybold went on to say:

“With several blockbuster games launching digitally and on UMD in the coming weeks — from LittleBigPlanet to Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines — we expect this momentum to continue and look forward to a strong holiday season for both the PSP Go and PSP-3000.”

The PSPgo is retailing for $249.99 and can be found at any major retailer.

when the price goes down i will buy one. $249.99 for a hand-held is ridiculous. I’d rather just buy another PS3

When the price goes down and there is a better solution for converting UMD games into a digital copy then I’ll be getting a PSP Go.

Nice to hear it’s doing well. Long may it continue because I love my PSP and want to see great games being released on the platform.

You’re paying for the extra memory and the compact size of the Go platform ie the sliding screen…so it is priced right. I purchased my first PSP at $249 in Feb ‘08 with one game and movie on disc. So reducing the size and making it lighter to carry makes it worth the extra cost for some people…

I guess you won’t be getting one for a while then if you think the price is to high…

I’m happy that it is succeeding, however, the entry price is a bit too rich for my blood at this time especially since I’m unemployed. But not only that I would rather wait because patience is a virtue when it comes to high tec gadgets. No doubt the go will undergo more changes (just as the 1000 model saw the release of the 2000 and then 3000 model) that will be released later and at a lower price.

Also I really wish they had figured out some sort of UMD transfer program for those people who already own a PSP but were looking to upgrade. Granted I only own eight games, but even if you figure those eight games all went for $14.99 you’re still looking at over $120 to re-buy them from the PSN store. I’d rather spend that $120 on two PS3 games and Lord knows there will be plenty of PS3 games releasing in the next few months to spend that on.

You know, I have 12 PSP games and I don’t think I really give a damn about converting most of them. Yeah I know I paid $x for them and can’t use them in a Go, but meh. Am I really going to play D&D Tactics again? REALLY? I barely made it through the first time (kinda dull). I know I own Dungeon Siege and PoP:Revelations, but would I ever play them again? I don’t play them now in my PSP-1000, after all.

To convert the ones I actually play wouldn’t cost me all that much, I have to admit. At first it was a big deal to me, but then they brought out Disgaea on the PSN store and suddenly I didn’t care any more :)
