Insomniac Games is one of the premiere developers for PS3. While their most recent game, Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time, is scheduled for an October 27th release, they might not be content to sit back and take it easy just yet if a recent billboard sighting near Shreveport, Louisiana is to believed.
The billboard was spotted by forum user “goldsoundz” from the site NeoGAF, who went on to say:
“I saw this billboard today in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are a lot of movies filmed here, and this one is about some sort of alien takeover of Los Angeles; the name of the film escapes me at the moment. Snapped off a few photos of the billboard since I wasn’t sure if the game had been announced yet or not. If not, then I’m surprised Insomniac would be announcing it here of all places.”
Unaffiliated Hollywood movie or subtle hint from Sony? While one billboard certainly can not be considered incontrovertible evidence that this is indeed the next game Insomniac is currently working on, it nonetheless serves as a tantalizing tease for many gamers to whet their appetite for next year. Still, one has to wonder the bizarre method Insomniac or Sony employed concerning this unofficial “announcement.”
Whether or not this billboard advertisement is legitimate, stick with PlayStation LifeStyle as we’ll bring you all the latest news from the newest game in the Resistance series!

That would be awesome. I loved the first two and I don’t know how on Earth I couldn’t love a third. Bring it on!
October 11th, 2009 at 12:44 AM
Can’t wait to see how they continue the story! That was quite a cliffhanger.
October 11th, 2009 at 1:00 AM
gas prices haven’t been that high in a year…FAKE
October 11th, 2009 at 1:05 AM
I love it lol, it could have been more flashy though.

This is a toughie, on one hand sony didn’t announce the “exclusive AAA FPS” at Tokyo Game Show like they had planned which leads me to believe the game was resistance 3 and sony figured Uncharted 2, GT5 and God of War were enough to keep fans held over until GDC 2010 where I believe they’ll announce it.
In true sony fashion though it looks like we’re in for skeptical pictures and a huge steam hype train until then, rest assured I strongly believe my scenario is the most logical of explanations, but no one’s comfortable with skepticism so we’ll have to wait until GDC.
*gets back to photoshopping*(jk)

It would be pretty hard to photoshop 2 different quality pictures at different angles with slightly different lighting, motion in one.. So assuming theres no photochoppery, this is legit, seeing as the logos are there, can’t use those without a copyright.

You guys should actually read through the original thread this is from. The billboard was put up to be in the background of a movie being shot by Columbia Tristar [owned by Sony]. They do this kind of thing all the time; go back and watch Casino Royale and count all the Sony Vaio computers blu ray discs and Sony Ericson phones. The movie is currently slated to be released February 2011; I would think that Resistance 3 will likely be released around or shortly after the movie which is why they dropped a little ad in. The game could very well be announced at E3 2010, or any of the other big events for that matter.
As for the gas prices, those could be there for the movie too. Someone on another site said those were actually lower than the price of gas in LA [where the movie takes place].

Why so serious?

@Mendax
It was even posted on this site before TGS that they would show a new “AAA Exclusive FPS” for the ps3 at tokyo game show but it never happened and like I put before they’re probably going to announce it at GDC in early 2010, there’s really no doubt sony would have Resistance 3 out in holiday 2010 to compete with Halo: Reach. It’s so predictable that it’s not even funny.
Everything will formulate around the time GDC conference comes up, E3 2010 at the latest.
@anyone who wants to debate: Just bookmark this page and come back after GDC 2010 and see if i’m wrong.

Shreveport…brings back memories… haha

There is no way that a Gas Station sign could prove something as a fake or not. Prices are different for different regions and some small rural areas. In Arizona i think some places are still up to around 3.00 a gallon. In Texas we pay a lot less because of all the oil fields. In Hawaii a happy meal costs 10 dollars. I’m not kidding.
In some foreign countries a tank of gas costs 50 USD. Of course their minimum pay is generally highly inflated above ours because the cost of living is so different, and it’s not actually in USD but that would be the conversion rate.
Also the billboard too closely resembles the words of Resistance 2 so there is no way I’d believe that it’s a movie billboard, plus there’s a small PS3 logo in the top left with Insomniac in the bottom right.
To me the final nail in the coffin is the fact that the PS logo in the upper left is the new white one that’s only been around for about a month. If someone DID fake it, there’s WAY too much atttention to detail and they need to get a good paying job somewhere doing something.
I mean Rating Pending in the lower left? Most people would forget that.

IF this isn’t fake, then I’d say that it is going to be set (at least one level) in New York. See the statue of liberty on the “A”. And do you see the Crysler (or Empire State, not sure) building in the “I”?
October 11th, 2009 at 8:39 AM
Of course, they’ll be a R3 and this looks legit.
Please God, let a lot of the game take place in NYC.

That dude should be arrested for dangerous driving! He’s on the wrong side! lol
10/11/2009 at 1:28 PM
I don’t know where your from…but in America we drive on the right-hand side of the road.
October 11th, 2009 at 9:55 AM
I bet this is real.. and I can see Sony putting this sign in a movie, to announce the game.. SO GOOD PR!
That logo looks too good to be photoshopped.. and since FOM was Britain, 2 was San Fran, 3 MUST BE NYC!
Why wouldn’t the sign be facing the highway if it is just an ad, it must be for a movie.
October 11th, 2009 at 11:35 AM
if Hale is not the main character, the no buy. This is Hale story and to play as someone else will ruin the series for me.
October 11th, 2009 at 12:12 PM
@TheHater
They have to go somewhere with the story, dude; you can’t get too attached to a character in a setting or else the story gets stale REALLY quickly. Personally I’m hoping that this one is Hale but that it ends a three story character arc and R4 starts a new trilogy with a new main character in the same universe.

@ENIGMATIC_HiTMAN
I don’t know what you mean….I was being serious, I wasn’t directing my comment at you if that’s what you mean. I was just saying how it probably isn’t a photoshop, i’m not an expert or anything, but I know it would super hard to get those 2 pics right.
October 11th, 2009 at 12:56 PM
the gas station looks all boarded up to me
October 11th, 2009 at 3:28 PM
This billboard and gas prices are from the set of a movie slated for 2011, called Battle : Los Angeles.
I have no doubt they are real, with Rachet releasing this year and Insomniac building their new facility in NC, i’m sure they’re working on Resistance 3, they were hiring last year for a bunch of positions.
Apparently multiple people have reported this sign and supported it with pics. I’d say thats a confirmation
October 11th, 2009 at 4:37 PM
selfja – don’t read into the gas price because prices are different all across the country so just because they haven’t been that high where you live doesn’t mean much.
I don’t know why these would be fake and even if they are we all know that a Resistance 3 is coming anyway, they would be foolish not to continue such a successful series.
October 11th, 2009 at 5:59 PM
@capt.fodder
Resistance is suppose to be a trilogy, so I expect Hale to be the main character.
October 11th, 2009 at 6:58 PM
that would be cool.. i like RFOM the 2nd was all right it needed narratives.
October 11th, 2009 at 11:16 PM
the 2nd one didn’t need narratives. Resistance games are awesome. l can’t wait to play the 3rd
October 12th, 2009 at 12:40 AM
@wtGp
Cool, just step on his opinion, that’s the grown up way to comment.
