Naughty Dog must be feeling pretty good right about now. Their little known Uncharted series has just spawned a sequel which is getting rave reviews. Some chatter recently popped up on the Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta forums that has given the cross game chat rumor more credence then it’s ever had.
One of the Naughty Dog devs who is active in the PlayStation forums recently made a mention about cross game chat which is about as close to a confirmation that has been heard up until this point.
“Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies positions.”
At the time of press, this message has been edited and the reference has been removed. This may mean the feature is not ready for prime-time or someone took this dev behind the woodshed and told them what for. Below is an image of the post.

Well, how about that? Finally. This is like when Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon) finally got “too old for this s—”.

Awesome
Cross-game chat is a big boost to the console’s community, so sooner the better.

and I still see this as the fundamental flaw with cross game chat. Communication with the enemy is possible, and I know theres a ton of kids out there that will use it to boost their account experience up, instead of just playing the game skillfully. I was really hoping the reason cross game chat was taking so long was because they’re working out a way to prevent that issue, but this indicates otherwise… which is really disappointing to me.

cheaters are a drag, it’s the main reason we don’t see split screen games much online as well.

This should be easy to manage with a simple algorithm:
If player X and player Y are in the same game but on different sides, chat equals NO.

The thing is, it seems nothing like a ’slip up’ Sonys thing is to ‘leak’ things on the net so it builds up momentum and rumour circulation and gets people talking about PS related issues.
That comment seems too blatant to put out directly like that. He/she knows that nothing has been announced, but saying it in that exact way is way too blatant for a slip. It’s another Sony strategy to get more peopl talking about Cross-Game chat and then when the news becomes old as in 2 weeks it gets released and everyone up in arms.
Sony purposefully has ‘leaks’ to get the media talking about them or their product(s) rather than showing a trailer once or twice then media silence, they ‘leak’ out rumours such as this to get people talking. If it wasn’t for these so called ‘leaks’ we wouldnt have very much to be excited at E3 and GamesCon etc…
I was very excited right before GamesCon because of all the rumours and speculation that was on the internet, same as Tokyo Games Show and E3 so I was very excited, a must-watch or read thing because of ‘leaks’ . It’s a great strategy and works…

@ shadowjin
why? That’s probable, but ridiculous- Especially if this dude was in some lowly position and just sticks on the forums like us and was going on speculation.
