Many questioned Sony when they chose to bring out a gaming device that is download only. Well, judging from the digital sales figures of the PSN, the PSPgo is resulting in massive sales via download.

Since the launch of the PSPgo, the sales of digital content are up a total of 200%, quite a big jump for the handheld everyone worried about. A SCEA Spokesperson had this to say.

“The launch of PSPgo has generated strong consumer interest in the overall PSP platform and the PlayStation Network’s digital content offering. In the three days since the Oct. 1 launch of PSPgo, our top retail partners experienced a 300 percent lift in PSP hardware sales compared to the prior week same period.”

“The launch of the PSPgo has generated a significant increase in revenue for PlayStation Network, driven by a 200 percent lift in PSP game downloads purchased from PlayStation Store. With several blockbuster games launching digitally and on UMD in the coming weeks — from LittleBigPlanet to Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines — we expect this momentum to continue and look forward to a strong holiday season for both the PSPgo and PSP-3000.”

Looks as if the handheld is still holding it’s own. Especially with the strong lineup coming down the line. So, do any of you own/plan to own a PSPgo? And if so, were you apart of that 200% sales increase?

Well, the Go can only use downloadable content, so obviously sales are going to go up. People don’t buy them just to look at them. And they came out with quite a bit of new downloadable content lately – chances are that would cause sales to go up even without the launch of the Go. New games do sell, even on old platforms.

@JackC8 – I completely agree. If DLC is your only option then obviously it is going to sell. PSN has been picking up in recent weeks. I know I’ve blown through $50 bucks that had been sitting in my wallet for ages. Annual Qore subscription, Critter Crunch, Savage Moon DLC. October, November and December are going to be expensive months for me. All worthwhile, but still…

Is the sales because of the PSP Go or is it because of GT PSP?
