Critter Crunch Nibbles on Sales Charts, Bite Size Portion Coming Soon

Despite great reviews and a relatively small price of $6.99, the oddly adorable Critter Crunch did not ring through for high sales. Originally developed for the iPhone platform, Capybara Games gave the game a complete next gen retool for the PS3.  The developer has recently commented on the disappointing results.

The developer also revealed a demo for the game is in bound.  Hopefully the change in strategy will boost the sales numbers for this cult favorite.

Not selling so hot. Very sad over here too. Hopefully the demo will help, but what can you do – we made the best game we could for the best price we could, but in the end it’s the gamers that define your level of sales success.

Bunch of slackers (PS3 Owners). This is a fun one. I bought it! We need to support these kinds of games. Otherwise we’ll never see another game of this caliber for a sweet $6.99 on the PSN again!

  2. This isn’t the type of thing that really appeals to me, so I can’t lay down the cash without playing it first. When the demo hits, I’ll see if it is addictive in any way I guess. I just don’t play casual games on my PS3 – that’s what my PSP is for.

Right, Sony needs to push hard for developers to put out demos for ALL of their PSN titles. Until then, their sales will inevitably suffer.

  4. @megs
they aren’t far from that either, hell half the games the only way to get it is downloading the demo and unlocking the full game.

  5. @capt.fodder Wait wait wait… did you just call Critter Crunch a casual game? The game is hard as hell in some parts, has a HUGE amount of content has gotten high levels of praise from reviewers, the game is actually so hard in the later levels that they overshot their difficulty and they’re going to decrease it a bit, because at some points it’s almost impossible without luck, but they’re fixing it soon.

The game has over 120 levels easily, with multiplayer forms like co-op and versus, survival, I mean what exactly about this game is casual? Is it because a cute furball barfs rainbows after feeding smaller critters to larger ones to make them pop into edible crystals? If that’s the case then Ratchet and Clank, Katamari Forever, Little Big Planet, and Shatter must be “casual game”

You really can’t just say a game is “Casual” therefor you won’t like it dude. The original Mario Bro games were casual. You saying you can’t like any Mario, or Zelda game because they’re too casual? Sounds like a cop-out. Wii fit is a casual game. Wii Sports and Resort are casual games.

Those games have nothing to hold a hardcore gamer’s interest, where as the games I listed off earlier have a lot of hardcore appeal. Critter Crunch is NOT a casual game, it just STARTS OFF casual “friendly” just like Tetris, but with rainbow coloured barf in some of the most beautiful 2D art available for either SD or HD.

@megs they DID make a demo for this game. When you buy this game you get the demo and the unlock key, but they had a few things they needed to iron out in the demo. You’re getting one very soon, but this game surpasses needs for demos.

I think too many people have been burned by crappy games, so they need a demo to make a decision. That’s not too much to ask is it? Also, U2 & Fallout & Demon are out, only so much time & or money to go around.
You create exploding chains and clear the board. Not exactly a ground breaking title, but still a fun title & worth 7 bananas easily.

Edit: agree that it’s not a casual game at all, some of the challenge levels are very hard, and later on in the game good luck like Makai said.

Come on americans! It’s only $6.99 and it’s an awesome game from the looks of things! When you lot don’t buy stuff it takes fricken ages for the SCEE to put the games on the european PSN and i want critter crunch on my PSN store as in sterlings it works out to about £4.00 and there’s an awesome deal.

Also i’m not blaming you, it’s the SCEE’s fault but prehaps if the sales in the USA were better for this game it might increase the chance of us europeans getting this game (I’m english)

  8. I believe the sales suffered so much due to the time it was released. Although a demo would help. I might pick this up later on. IMO it looks a little to goofy.

  9. This is the most fun i’ve had with a puzzle game in a long time. Definitely worth its price. Ranks up there with Super Puzzle Fighter

  10. kirobz says:

I am really getting this. I just haven’t bought a PSN card yet.

  11. Timewarp says:

i wonder when the SCEE are given the european forums this, it looks awesome and i assumed i’ld get this in the update

If you could understand things like opinions, perspectives, and contexts, you would realize why you wasted so much time typing. Critter crunch could easily be described as casual, since you could play just 1 level a day, multiplayer just means you can play with friends, casually or not, you don’t have to watch long cutscenes to follow a fully written and voiced story, you don’t spend any time on moving a character around big environments, you can just pick it up and play it for a couple minutes, and anyone can play at any point without being too lost. That sounds pretty casual from my perspective, but if you disagree that’s you.

And again I catch you making stuff up to reinforce a shitty argument. You would compare a puzzle game like critter crunch to games with fully designed environments, stories, characters, etc.like zelda and mario? That’s kinda crazy, but I guess since you were telling someone else they think that, it makes sense? Also the fact that you think zelda is a casual game is evidence your opinion can be different than his and still be valid.

  13. Thanks JT, I was getting a little worried there that maybe I shifted into an alternate reality or something…

Just because a game is difficult doesn’t mean it isn’t “casual”. I feel it has to do with the type of player that they are trying to attract. And I hate to break the news, but I consider Katamari Forever, Little Big Planet, Shatter and Tetris to all be casual games. If I made a mistake in programming Tetris so that the blocks fell at 1000 miles an hour on level 1, it wouldn’t suddenly make it non-casual; it is the same casual game with a mistake in it.

But whatever MakaiOokami, if I somehow insulted you for whatever reason (and seriously, I have no idea what that good reason could be), well, grow up.

I bought it, they would deserve the $7 even if the game wasn’t any fun just for being one of the few that allows split-screen play but the game is fun so it is definitely worth the purchase….my guess as to why no one bought it…Uncharted 2 and Brutal Legend, no one has time for downloadable games. What do you expect when you release a game the same week as two blockbuster titles? Not to mention people are saving money for all the great titles coming up. A demo should help though.

Everyone should get this game its fun, challenging, and it’s two player, versus or co-op. Come on everyone its LESS than $10, people complain about tetris being $10, this kicks tetris’s ass.

    @MakaiOokami

its a casual game.. you move from left to right puzzle style. stop forcing your views on people and get with REALITY
