Assassin’s Creed Goes Hollywood

10/21/2009 Written by Sebastian Moss

Ubisoft has made numerous comments about how they would love to merge games and films, even mentioning that they would like to bring their intellectual properties to the big screen without the need of a middle man, such as Disney for their Prince of Persia movie. In July last year, Ubisoft acquired Hybride Technologies, creators of visual effects for such movies as 300 and Sin City. Ubisoft aimed to use their combined efforts to develop visual technology and tools to optimize the creation of both video games and visual effects as well as placing the initial stepping stones for their eventual move into film. After the announcement of Assassin’s Creed 2, Ubisoft revealed that Hybride would be working on a series of live action shorts for the game. Now the first of these has been released.

Two more short films are planned to be released before the game ships on November 17th. Additionally, for those wishing to make their own Assassin’s Creed fan video Ubisoft has begun selling Altair clothing and paraphernalia.

Since the film & game industry uses the same tech, it’s not a big deal to get into visual effects.
