When the addition of multiplayer to the Uncharted series was originally announced, many consumers expressed disinterest. Since then, both global betas and the full-version of the game have proven that the Naughty Dog team excel at delivering high-quality even in the face of adversity. However, not all is perfect as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has suffered some multiplayer issues including some minor networking hiccups as well the prevalence of players quitting during matches. Thankfully, Naughty Dog is up to the challenge of correcting these issues in the near future.

In a recent interview with Amy Hennig and Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog, both briefly explained that they are looking to not only continue to add to the game, but correct issues as well. Neil Druckmann stated that by the end of the year they plan to tweak gameplay. On the other hand, Amy Hennig mentioned that player quitting has been an issue and Naughty Dog plans to punish players who quit in the near future. While both were mentioned very vaguely, the mere mention is a great sign for the tens of thousands who have been enjoying the Uncharted 2: Among Thieves multiplayer.

These few changes in addition to the recently announced free DLC means that the Uncharted 2 community has a lot to look forward to.

Uncharted is great series and to add multiplayer was a risk and it should pay off but for those that quit mid-game there should be some kind of punishment/conseqsuence. I will have to get back to the MP and have more fun but real life has gotten in the way. But I like the new CO-OP maps and will concentrate there since it is easier to play with friends on a specific mission/objective.

    CO-OP all the way…

  2. Thats really lame they are punishing people who quit games. Not everyone quits because they are doing bad and crying like a baby. Some people lose track of time and have to get up and leave to do something and sometimes people just think to themselves half way thru a match they are done for the night. I think thats a bad decision on their half. Quitting the game doesnt do anything but stop the game for a second and reload and everyone keeps the same score. I think thats a poor decision on half of naughty dog.

  3. Not exactly on topic, but how does the “kicking” system work? I’ve only been kicked a couple times, but it’s always when I did well. I get the feeling it’s because I killed the host a few too many times, but that’s assuming only the host can kick you.
That’s pretty mature to kick the people on the other team who did well…

  4. That is a stupid idea. I hate games that punish people for quiting. Sometimes you have to quit to either go to bed or leave the house. There is no reason I should be punished because I have to go pick my kid up from school or have to get up early in the morning and a game is running long.

l love it. Thank u naughty dog for doing this. l hate quiters who leave matches, why even go online when your’re just a sore loser. Street Fighter 4 does this as well and l’m glad it does although it only applies to the tournament mode.

  6. DGR8Mc187 says:

@ Jasper If you team kill too many times the people who you have offended are given the choice to boot or keep so you watch your freindly fire there .

  7. I was just thinking how much I hate quitters. I played 4 co-op games today and 3 times someone quit. Starting to piss me off.

  8. Why is it so hard for companies to understand that you must release something for those who try and disconnect or quit a match when things don’t go well. Most people’s internet connections aren’t that unstable and if they are they need to stay away from ranked crap.

If it’s unranked there’s no need to quit.

These companies act like quitters are some new fad and not a decade or longer tradition of booseys.

  9. KwietStorm says:

Quitters leave their team at a disadvantage, it happens too much, and Naught Dog knows this, so they will punish those people. Its that simple. I can’t understand even a little bit how anyone can complain about this. Of course not every person who quits is being a dick, but its obvious enough who’s who to anyone who plays games online.

  10. Dre says:

yes finally. 95% ppl who quit during match r the ppl who r during really bad or ppl who r on a team w/ bunch of noobs

  11. Sneeches says:

Finally it’s about time they addressed this issue. For people that quit they should have a 24 to 48 hour ban on the game!!!!!

  12. @ DGR8Mc

Ha, I see. I’ve really never noticed killing a teammate besides once or twice. I guess when I’m doing “well” I’m too distracted to notice the casualties. Or maybe they just run into my revenge perk grenade… Either way, thanks, I’ll keep that in mind from now on.

  13. kirobz says:

Quitters if in my team are not really a disadvantage for me. If they quit, more kills for me. It happened to me a couple of times. We won some of them too. I wonder if the people who get disconnected would be punished too. I hope they don’t. And also add the scores of people who gets dc. And yeah, most people who quits doesn’t really make them bad because sometime real life needs them. But if people who quits because they’re getting their ass kicked, it just won’t do good on them. People need to realize that to become good, they need to play against better players.

  14. jaewest304 says:

Good. I dont care if you start a game and then think “Oh Im sleepy” ur ass shouldnt have started playing then! Enough bitching people…quitters suck period. I understand that some times things come up but that doesnt mean that nothing should happen if you quit…in ANY game u should get hit with a penalty if u quit

  15. solo013 says:

I sometimes understand quitting in the middle of a match of any mp game. There are several valid reasons. In those reasons alone I don’t believe someone quitting a match should result in a penalty.

The main reason I would quit is when I run into glitchers and spawn campers.
Everyone needs to face the fact though that these games are meant to be fun. If you are not having fun while playing them then why are you playing them? If you can’t move without being blown away in a match there’s no fun and no reason to stay. However, at the same time I’ve had people on my team on U2 quit, and I see no reason for it. They were not doing any worse than any other player in the whole match. I may have a low k/d ratio, but it’s because I will hunt down and exact revenge for my deaths from someone who deserves it.

However, when you manipulate the system to boost your stats and abilities by quitting it’s just wrong. They should just not give anything to someone who quits the match early.

  16. nemo20000 says:

    Hmmmm.

Warhawk doesn’t need a system to punish quitters.

    :-/

  17. @nemo20000 – Warhawk has more players per game… thus one quitter or two has much less effect on the outcome.

@solo013 – I’ve never had a problem with spawn campers in this game…. generally it spawns you away from where other players are located, and theres more spawn points than players… so I don’t really know what you’re getting at with that. I haven’t really seen glitches you can take advantage of either. So…. dont quit. Also, when you quit you forfeit all earnings from the match, so you can’t boost anything by doing so.

Quitters should be punished more in RANKED games. Its insanely annoying to have you rank dropped because you end up on a team of 3 vs 5. It leaves you with the option of quitting (= rank drop), or playing it out and getting the shit pounded out of you (= rank drop). In unranked games it shouldn’t matter…

I’m really glad to hear that they are working on these things. Naughty Dog has released one of the greatest games ever, and isn’t afraid to admit there are problems. Awesome. FREE DLC!! FRIGGIN’ SWEET!

  18. So you’re telling me that if I have been playing for hours (without quiting) and suddenly I have to quit for some unforeseen “REAL” life situation then I should be punished. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. I know it means nothing to the rest of the world but that would probably cause me to never play the game online again. I have plenty of other games to play.

  19. draegen says:

Everyone that’s complaining about having to quit every once and a while because of unforeseen circumstances, chill. I t’s not like they’re gonna delete your game save or melt your disc. You’ll probably loose a little experience, no big deal. And if it happens that often, learn to manage your time better…
What is a big deal is when you join a match then someone quits, then a few minutes later someone else. What do you do when you’re the lone remaining player on you team? Quit and lose all of your gained experience or let the other team rack up points at your expense and humiliation? It’s happened and it sucks.
Kudos to Naughty Dog! Uncharted 2 is a brilliant game and I’m sure that they are putting a lot of thought in the best way to add this feature.

  20. @Jeff – This is why I’m saying it should only be for ranked games. Nobody should ever join a ranked game unless they fully intend to play the full round and play it to win. Sure, it sucks if once in a blue moon you have to quit for some unforeseen circumstance, but you’d really never play again because of that? I think its much more discouraging to play in completely unbalanced games. Even when I’m on the team with all 5 people vs 2 or 3 others, I hate it. Sure, I win, sure, my rank goes up, but its boring!

  21. SolidCake_ says:

when you quit, your avatar should wear a frilly dress the next time you play.

    problem solved, next?

  22. I agree that there are times when you may be forced to quit (family obligations, health, work, personal reasons) before a match is over, and you’re quitting because you HAVE to, NOT because you’re a “sore loser”.

Punishment is a BAD idea for this.

    How bout this…

Instead of PUNISHING someone for quitting (we never know what the reason really is), how about simply letting people join already existing games so their empty slot will be refilled quickly?

  23. DGR8Mc187 says:

It wouldn’t be that big of a problem if someon could join a match after someone has quit.

  24. Timewarp says:

i’ve only quit ounce and that was becasue the two idiots i was playing with on Co-op basically killed me themself by firing a RPG right at me, the idiots deserved it. I’m up for this as long as players who team kill are also punished.

  25. jnsc60 says:

I started a co-op game this morning with 2 other player’s. We were doing well, but within 10 mins. into the game I lost connection. So if I understand this right, if I go back online in the game and lose connection again I will lose $40,000 and what little ranking I have?

Player’s shouldn’t quit intentionally, but the internet is not stable enough to have this type of penalty. Allot of player’s take pride in there ranking’s, and when that’s taken away from good player’s who would never quit a game intentionally, allot of them will quit playing all together and that’s a shame considering what a great game UC2 is….I don’t think this is the answer.

ND is obviously going to take both sides into account when addressing the situation. Remain seated.
