Versagen: German Anti-Game Protest Falls Flat

The German government hasn’t had the greatest of relationship’s with computer games, even going so far as to raid Cryteck’s German operations with over one hundred flak-jacketed riot police and recently trying to pass a bill that could ban violent video games from being produced in the country, a move that could forcebeleaguered developer Cryteck to leave Germany. However the German population doesn’t seem to mirror it’s leader’s views, with over 60,000 people petitioning against the ban and with Germany overtaking the UK to be Europe’s biggest game market.

Assassin’s Creed Goes Hollywood

Ubisoft has made numerous rumblings about how they would love to merge games and films, even commenting on how they would like to bring their intellectual properties to the big screen without the need of a middle man, such as Disney for their Prince of Persia movie. In July last year, Ubisoft acquired Hybride Technologies, creators of visual effects for such movies as 300 and Sin City. Ubisoft aimed to use their combined efforts to develop visual technology and tools to optimize the creation of both video games and visual effects as well as placing the initial stepping stones for their eventual move into film. After the announcement of Assassin’s Creed 2, Ubisoft revealed that Hybride would be working on a series of live action shorts for the game. Now the first of these has been released.
