Mandatory installs have now become the norm with most PS3 games as developers attempt to cut down on load times. Well add one more to that pile as Assassin’s Creed 2 will have an install upon your initial boot up of the game.
A PR Rep for Ubisoft has confirmed at Eurogamer Expo 09 that Assassin’s Creed 2 will have a 2GB install that should take roughly 5 to 6 minutes to complete. So before you can take Ezio out for a spin you will have a tiny wait, though at 5 or 6 minutes its really not much of one. So grab a sandwhich, stop off at the bathroom and it should be done in no time. Assassin’s Creed 2 launches November 17th for PS3, 360, PC and iPhone. As always, stay connected to PlayStation LifeStyle for all your PS3 news.
So does this install bother anyone or has most everyone gotten used to it?

I put a 500 GB in my slim, so all mandatory installs tremble at my size & awesomeness.

He at least has a good opinion here. Anyone that doesn’t like mandatory installs must not like playing the game they just bought. It’s like complaining about needing the disc, it’s just something else that makes the game playable. If you have that many games installed that you’re out of room you could probably delete one or two you don’t play very often in favour of the new better game right?
@SolidCake
500 Gigs is starting to look like a necessity lol.

I’ve got a 200 GB HDD in my PS3, so the installs don’t really concern me these days. But they are annoying and after seeing what Naughty Dog did without an install, it’s almost inexcusable…

@JohnnyTruant5
you mean 1 good opinion out of thousands. lol. im suprised he actually read the article. i remember when Sneeches admited he never reads the articles just the title. Installs rarely improve the game, its a workaround in the programing area. Tekken 6 has a over 4 gb install or 6 cant remember and it cut 2 seconds of loading down. im not worried about installs as i have 650gb (yes, they have them out) but i use the space more for music etc. most games dont have installs so , im not concerned

As long as installs cut down on load time then I’m all for them. I don’t mind waiting the first time I install a game if it improves the user experience later on. They are getting bigger though and the 120GB hard drive in my slim PS3 will be looking pretty full in a couple of months time. At least they’re easy to upgrade.

I don’t mind the installs, whether they really help or not…if you’re worried about space upgrade your harddrive (I have a 320 GB), if you’re still worried then uninstall game data once you’re done with the game because there is no need to keep it there forever…if you’re not willing to wait for the install to get done to play the game then you need to grow up and get out of gaming. Would it be better without them? Maybe. Does it really hurt the experience? No.

l agree with giese095
mandatory installs are for those that have no more storage space so either buy a new hard drive or delete your own install data. If u can’t stand installs then you must not like gaming because majority of games have this

Why cant they do it like naughty dog.. no install but still normal load times… Im not saying I hate install in fact i got used to it… i even install those games that are optional to install because i want load times but wouldnt it be better if its still fast w/o the install?

@ Paulmichael Contreras
Naughty Dog did an install for Uncharted 2. Didn’t it take like 5 mins before you got to the main menu when you first put it in?

@ pyro494
i beat the game before realizing it had an install so its not needed and i couldn’t tell it was needed.

Uncharted2 got it right MGS4 got it wrong….very wrong.

hay giese095, how can u upgrade your ps3 harddrive? do they sell them

I dont really care about installs. If you’re that impatient you cant wait a few minutes for a game to install to help your load times maybe just walk away from your ps3 when you install a game. also 2g is nothing, I think people dont look at the game data utility often cause RE5 was a 4+gig install along with MGS4.

Am I the only person who is thinking that this game will be just like AC but with better visuals different cities and the same repetitive ass gameplay.
November 2nd, 2009 at 7:01 PM
@C3PO
You very well could be, I read an interview over at the escapist.com a while ago, some guy from Ubisoft was saying the only missions that are pretty well repeats happen far apart and there’s only a couple, they said 1 or 2, but who knows if that is factual or if it’s really: well a lot are similar but not identical so we’ll just say theres no repeats to make our game sound better.

Mandatory installs dont bother me as much as mandatory updates. I hate wanting to play a game that I think is ready and have to spend 2-3 minutes dling and installing.
November 4th, 2009 at 8:07 PM
I’ll be damned if the game’s repetitive. No company is stupid enough to incorporate the biggest complaint of their first game into the second. I’m no AC fan, I just have faith in humans.
If it ends up being repetitive, I give up.
