Sony Says Home is a High Priority

PlayStation Home, a virtual community for PS3 owners has been a huge success since its launch. Despite reports stating otherwise, it is still a high priority for the folks at Sony.

Recent reports from Edge Magazine however have painted a different picture.  Speaking at the London Games Conference, Sony’s director of PlayStation Home Pete Edwards had this to say about the service

“It’s been a long road. We’ve proved there is a market out there and we’ve got a lot of people that spend a lot of time in [Home]. It’s not a priority right now but there is a business model there.”

Sony has now come back and said that Edwards was misquoted.

“Edwards was saying that monetizing Home was not as big a priority as building a great platform, with a compelling environment and a strong community. Home is still a top priority for Sony and will continue to release quality content and provide a positive experience to our users,”

While Home might not be for everyone, Sony has done a great job with supporting it and its getting better everyday.  As always, stay connected to PlayStation LifeStyle for all your PS3 news.

Went into home the other night, loaded things for 10 minutes, walked around a bit, quit. It was really really boring.
I may be missing the point of home, but you walk around, dance, and play mini games(Some don’t even work).

  2. HavenXL Says:

I agree, Home is rather boring. Again, something I just don’t understand the point of it

  3. Cameron Teague Says:

Home is not for everyone but for those wanting a social environment, Home is actually pretty cool and has a lot to it.

  4. shadowjin Says:

home is actually fun but its more geared at socialising.. which most dont know how to do in a virtual world. i met some people in home and there pretty cool..

  5. BalramRules Says:

Home is cool but would be awesome if Xi came back = (

  6. Odium_Generis Says:

He WAS misquoted/misunderstood. I TOTALLY got that he was talking about “monetizing” Home. Thing is, if they start really charging for tons of BASIC stuff in Home (like just logging in), that would be bad. Anyway, I like Home. It’ a cool social network. I just like chillin’ in there talking to people. Boring? Well, it’s not like playing Demon’s Souls, but I like TALKING about Demon’s Souls when I’m done playing it.

  7. wtGp Says:

home is indeed fun & socializing with others is great

I’ve met some nice people on Home, and it’s fun playing games together and winning prizes.
I like searching for clues to solve puzzles, but I always liked detective/sleuth puzzles.
@ balram – Xi was the bees knees wasn’t it?

  9. SteelFox Says:

    homes decent could be better..

Its funny to hear I walked around and was boring. It’s a socializing environment people. Its like saying I put in Killzone turned it on but all you do in it is just run around shoot people. Duh that’s the point. If you not using it the way it was intended you probably miss the point.

I agree with you completely Johnny. It is basically an interactive Facebook, which is pointless enough…personally I think it’s pretty pathetic how many people are willing to walk around as their avatars to meet people online…people need to get out of their houses and meet people in real life. I understand that there are some cool spaces and games, but that doesn’t make up for how pathetic the main focus of the program is

  12. Robotron Says:

I’ve found home to be populated with people who don’t buy games (or many games)…..guess that’s why Sony sells so much crap to them.

  13. dbigfeet Says:

why? its a piece of crap

  14. DGR8Mc187 Says:

Bees don’t have knees, lol HOME is what you make of it.

    @c3po
exactly. I get so upset when people complain openly about home. It’s a free service! You do not have to play it, it isn’t something required, and it can be uninstalled if you don’t want it to take up space. Why actively complain about something that other people obviously find enjoyable? Because you don’t get it? Move on.
