Capcom Gives Alternative for Resident Evil 5 Re-Release

11/10/2009 Written by Anthony Severino

Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition

When Capcom revealed Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition, many games felt slighted by the Japanese developer/publisher. Gamers complained that Capcom was double-dipping into their wallets by re-releasing a somewhat recently released (March of 2009) game with an additional 2-hour long backstory mission, as well as a new control scheme. Not quite enough to warrant a full release.

It seems as though Capcom has heard the cries of economically challenged gamers of Europe and North America…

Capcom has just revealed that due to an overwhelming response by gamers on Capcom community site polls, Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition will be released as downloadable content for both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

The DLC which will arrive this Spring will be available in both North America and European territories. Still no word on pricing or a solid release date, but we’ll be sure to update you as soon as there is more information.

Did Capcom make the right decision?

    maybe they should think of releasing a boxed copy alongside the dlc but its still a good idea to have it online

  2. SolidCake_ says:

    I though the poll asked people if they wanted a boxed version or just a downloadable version.

    NA gets the downloadble and Japan gets a box

    has nothing to do with price, just how you want it.

  3. JackC8 says:

    I think I’d be more likely to buy their wonder wands if they came bundled with a nice box full of RE5.

  4. onionpaper says:

    I have a feeling I won’t be picking this up

  5. Timewarp says:

    Awesome! I’m glad they choice the DLC as let’s be honest the people who wanted the box version could just pick up Resident evil 5 and then download the DLC where as people like me who already get it would have to buy another copy of the game just to get the extra stuff.

    Capcom made the right choice as this is another reason for me to get my hands on those motion controllers from sony i hope they have a nun-chuke like controller becasue holding a six-axsis and motion controller at the same time seems too awkard.

    Also to dbigfeet’s question, the new controller scheme is the one that takes advantage of sony’s new motion controllers.

    @Timewarp
    So it can be played like RE4 on the Wii? Interesting, very interesting

  7. Max Murray says:

    Well i think the chance is high that we’ll see this released in box form as well. I’m thinking a bundle package of RE5 and motion controller.

    RE5 jumped right in and was one of the first real demos with the new controller, so i can see Sony making a deal with them.

    I pray for a redesign on the controller though… anyone else feel that way?

  8. Mendax says:

    ^A redesign is likely since they already stated that what we saw at TGS was simply the latest prototype. Also, we haven’t seen the accompanying nunchuk that we all know is coming.

    I’d agree that the DLC option is great for those that already have the game; but a re-release of it on disc including the new content bundled with the wands could really draw in some of the hardcore crowd to take the motion wands for a test drive.

    looks like capcom gave in and made it DLC, now if they did that for SF4 then that would be awesome

    @joinsideke

    Yes, Yes a thousand times yes. When i first saw the design i thought it was just the prototype design but seeing as the lead games designer of resident evil 5 showed the very same controller when demenstrating the new controller scheme i think it’s safe to assume that’s the controller we’re getting, fantastic i can imagine the 360 fanboys reaction now “Your controller’s a blu-ray remote with a ping pong ball attached to the end!” natal’s a copy but at least it’s a cool style.
