These past few months have been pretty good to Sony and its PlayStation division. In comparison to this time last year, things are looking excellent indeed.

According to EEDAR (Electronic Entertainment Design And Research), sales for the PlayStation 3 are up a whopping 70 percent in October when compared to 2008. October also saw the most revenue generated by the PlayStation Store since its opening. Also notable is that there have been over 650 million pieces of downloaded content transferred via the Store to date. There are also now over 31 million registered PSN IDs. Impressive numbers indeed, and they are sure to increase even more when December rolls around.

Just wait until FFXIII is released in Japan. There will be a good number of PS3 records set I’m sure. Sony has really been pushing themselves in the last few months and it really is paying off.

  2. Paulmichael Contreras Says:

@Hongo, oh don’t you know it! I don’t know what happened over at Sony but I (and I’m sure everyone else here) love it! It’s a great time to be a PlayStation (3 and Portable) fan!

  3. ENiGMATiC_HiTMAN Says:

This is only going to triple when 2010 rolls around, gow3 and whatever sony has up it’s sleeves will push sales even further.

There’s still some things i’m curious about when it comes to games for 2010 though, like what games will we see get ported? It’s already been hinted by capcom that they’ll probably be porting some of their wii titles when the motion controller launches, Bungie still hasn’t announced the publisher for their unannounced new IP(I bet the publisher will be sony).

Next year will probably be more epic than this one when it comes to games, Resistance 3 has already been hinted at and what about the rumored Twisted Metal?

    I can’t wait until 2010……

    it’s growing exponentially

So much for M$ 360 being second in the console wars Sony after Christmas will be leaving them in the dust!

  6. DGR8Mc187 Says:

Good numbers. Glad to see Sony is kicking a$$.

  7. Brent Says:

I’d like to see the figures in 2010 too. The Wii won’t be on top anymore…
    And @ENiGMATiC_HiTMAN:
Do you really think Bungie would take Sony as their publisher? I think MS would buy up the exclusive deals and the game would go multiplatform.

  8. Robotron Says:

I know MS made a comment that Sony will be in third soon again but it’s just ignorant corporate talk.
Everyone I know who doesn’t have a PS3 is either buying one now or putting it on their wish list for December. The sales are going to pick up for another month at least and with next years titles and boxing day sales it looks like the year will close out nicely for Sony.

  9. joinsideke Says:

Sony is doing well.. I wonder if they’ll pass MS ever?

even more impressive- wouldn’t it be great (although unlikely [because of preventive measures and otherwise]) if sony had the wii sellout that we saw 2 years in a row?
