people don’t preorder so they can save money on ridiculous day one prices and wait 2-8 months for a game 10-20 dollars cheaper.

I only preorder a game when i have been looking forward to it since it’s announcement- like LoZ:TP and MGS4, and I can’t bring myself to wait that long to play it. Otherwise, self restraint and will power win

come on seriously… most preorder items are just not worth it, look at batman for instance. I could have preordered it and got the scarecrow challenge map or wait 3 weeks later and download it anytime off psn for free…

or how about some games like ratchet and clank, there was FOUR preorder items… but all of them were just advance items in the game, and nothing exclusive… so seriously whats so great about paying full for a game and only getting a slight edge?… thats right nothing!

lets look at some of the other ones…

Marvel ultimate alliance 2: Juggernaut was released over psn for 2 usd, so if i pay 2 usd or less than the original full retail price, there was no perk in preordering *also i heard hulk and him are nearly 1:1*
Littlebigplanet/Littlebigplanet psp: various costumes were given out for the ps3 one, and a set *that was quite ugly* for the psp… but over time the ps3 ones were sold though for a buck or so, you can easily buy the non goty edition new, and buy all the preorder item costumes and STILL pay less than you did to preorder…
Demons Souls: I preordered because I wanted to secure a copy *why this mentality is stupid, since everyone who wants it basically is gonna preorder at the start…* When i got my preorder items off amazon… lets look at them, the art book is rather lack luster… I mean not even every boss gets a picture, its just meh… and the OST isnt something ill ever listen to and lets face it can easily be pirated. *not to mention that bestbuy sold them with the preorder items for a while…*
katamari forever: it came with a cellphone dangle of the prince, it was nice… but most people now a days own a smart phone *i own a iphone for instance* so i wouldnt be able to use it anyways… im sure a LOT of people are in the same boat.
god of war 3: you get the demo, but it comes free with Collection… though preordering it at bestbuy gets you 10 usd off Collection is a good deal, but they must be bought at the same time, and really if you wait long enough you can get it for less *preowned is already 35, which is what the 10 usd off will cost you since you pay the 5 to preorder =P* so its not really that special of a deal… not to mention the black friday deals with it too…
MAG: you get beta access, but come on getting in the beta wasnt hard… between all the codes sent out, the people who just gave them away at gametop *happened to me* the qore codes, and many other outlits you could have easily obtained a code prior to paying to preorder like i did =\
bayonetta: the hot pose picture collection… really i rather feel sad for anyone whom finds this a good item… and can easily be seen over the internet *not like im gonna hang a pic of a “hot” girl from a game in my room =\ i might not even look at it*
darksiders: gamestop is giving a shirt away, I remember seeing it and it was a simple black shirt that said darksiders in quite small print over the breast… its hardly something people are gonna go “that shirt is epic” like the street fighter 2/3 collection shirt from like 8 years ago XD

not enough poor preorder items? how about I keep going!

borderlands: gamestop had a special merc gun pack, but those stop being useful at level 15, and you can only hold 12 guns at the start, and 41 or so at the end *i forget the exact* so its not like youre gonna have these preorder edge items past the first 3 hours.
wolfenstein: bestbuy had preaccess to the flamethrower, and gamestop had online bonus points for day 1.
battlefield bad company 2: easily access to a gun, but really nothing special.
uncharted 2: golden guns *they make you easier to kill*, getting eariler skills *make you a tad over powered at a low level* etc… but hardly anything that is gonna make me kick myself for paying 20 usd when you paid 60 =\
etc…

I can keep going, but most newer games dont have REAL preorder items, I will admit some do *like guitar hero van, but that was free with 5 a while back so not a huge deal…* but there is very little that is gonna make me want to buy a game that is short just to secure a small item that may or may not be on sale for a later date…

take assassins creed 2, its a not bad game, but in 2 days… i got 96% of the trophies, what did I miss?

the 16 memory pieces *no guide to find them all… I saw pics of the spots but not the actual place on the map and i didnt want to work too hard to find them so i didnt*
sweep 5 people with a long weapon *I looked for a long weapon for 2 hours in post game… and gave up since it was a rental and it was due back shortly*
collect every feather *no guide, and didnt want to get 99/100 and get nothing due to that =\*
use the aditor cape in all towns *needed every feather*

whats my point? I beat Creed II, in 2 days and costed me 2 usd to do so… if i preordered and bought it, i might have a fancy extra map… but really theres nothing stoping me from getting full enjoyment, out of the rental and force me to care enough to pounce on the preorder map! now since gamestop offered a 40 usd trade in preorder bonus… in the time it takes to beat the game and get the plat… I could do for 13 or more, less USD than preordering/buying it =\

there are tons of other side reasons… such as errors by the company

tekken 6: you got a playstation and a xbox code if you preordered, which gamefaqs were giving away constantly.
Halo OST: a LOT of people reported NOT getting the preorder item, and several people reported getting the preorder item just BUYING the item day one…
stock runs out… I know a lot of times they only get 2 – 3 shirts which if you pick the wrong place to buy you wont get one *they rarly give them out without buying the game now a days*

so it comes down to…

would you like to be the guy who bought Fairytale Fights via preorder and got the t shirt that was free with it, or would you like to be the guy who went to gamestop today and bought it new *10/27/09 it was new so less than even a month later…* for 20 YES 20 usd less?

i have tons of shirts, sound tracks, plushies, figures, Betas, really bad ass artworks, calanders, hats, artbooks, strategy guides, and many other things due to preordering. These are NOT special editions just preorders. In otherwords free stuff.

If cost is an issue then preorder from amazon. I got a free comic, and the game for 48.99.

I got Uncharted 2 with the somewhat crappy treasure map for free and I got the game for 52.99 plus a credit for 5 dollars on the next game purchase.

If it’s a game you want, and you know you are going to save up enough money on release day, and that you have evaluated whether or not the game will be worth the price of admission, and there’s a freebie, then preorder the game.

I have items from stuff that I never preordered, because I used to preorder so much stuff they’d give me extra preorder collectibles.

People who don’t like to preorder and who do not have a valid reason for it are idiots. Ideological idiots. Worst case scenario? You transfer the money to another game or you take your money back.

People who say “I don’t preorder” are usually people who just impulse buy, don’t do research, don’t think, and end up buying a lot of games that they rarely enjoy. I USUALLY enjoy games I buy, and if I don’t, then well… I trade them in when I’m hurting for money for games that are worth playing.

Moral of these stories? Pre-order.

If I had known that they were making a Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires game I would have pre-ordered it. Instead I didn’t know and thus a game I wanted to play was beyond my reach so I essentially rented it. Of course I did end up saving money by renting it, but I could have enjoyed it longer and more completely had I bought it instead of rented it and haste played it.
