Last week, Pandemic Studios was shut down and absorbed by EA games. EA fired over 200 Pandemic employees, but kept 35 employees to work on the Saboteur. It was believed that EA kept these employees only to finish their current games in development, but the former Pandemic employees will be continuing one of their most popular franchises.
EA recently announced Mercs Inc, which is suppose to be the first Pandemic game developed at their new location in Playa Vista, California. Nick Earl, Senior VP and Group General Manager at EA had this to say:
“We are very excited to announce a new installment in the popular Mercenaries series because it demonstrates our continued commitment to Pandemic’s rich catalog of intellectual properties. From the studio at EALA, a core creative team is forging new ground and conceptualizing new ideas for this exciting franchise.”
This is great news for fans of the Mercenaries series. It is not know if Mercs Inc is the so called “Project X” that Pandemic mentioned on their website, or if they are entirely separate projects. It will be interesting to see exactly how much support EA has for the Pandemic catalog in the coming months.

“forging new ground and conceptualizing new ideas” = it’s a long way off.

Mercenaries 2 is the only game in the series I played and I hated it maybe cause i never played the first game and it looked like GTA just with Mercs.

Last mercenaries game was embarassing, can’t say i’m looking forward to this one. It better not be project X, we deserve better than that.

damn…200 people. I wonder what the atmosphere is like…I can just see an HR rep during the meeting walking in…looks at everyone and just starts pointing…you, you, you, you, the entire back row…matter of fact if your name is not on this list…your fired. I wonder if they gave out prizes ala…survivor, or the bachelor…
All joking aside though…mercenaries was an okay game…but they need a better gimmick other than blowing stuff up. Sand box games need more depth to them as the concept has gotten a bit stale.

Mercenaries 2 is one of the worst games to be release this generation. This one, well it does not look so good either.

I was a huge fan of the first mercenaries, but I didn’t really like the second one. They took out or changed everything about the first game that made it fun.
