During their meeting to discuss first half numbers of their ’09-10 fiscal year, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot eluded to his company’s heavy involvement in Sony‘s motion controller. Although not much, it is a good sign, and should relieve worried gamers of lack of 3rd party support.
According to Guillemot, Ubisoft is currently working on 4-5 games for Sony’s motion controller. Whether these are completely new intellectual properties or in fact updates to previously released games, is not yet certain. However, it was further explained that Guillemot may have been referring to more casual, not hardcore games.
His response to the initial report:
“I didn’t count the games in fact that are supporting the new functions that those accessories will bring. I was more speaking about casual games that we are doing on those two [PS3 and 360] machines; we can consider that on those games it’s 70 percent new property.”

well I hope they come out with some good hardcore games soon after if not at the same time as the PS3′s motion wand so that many of us hardcore gamers don’t become disillusioned by the technology and demote it to gimmick status…which many already are…I want Sony and the game developers to prove everyone wrong and show that BOTH motion and 3D are much more than gimmicks and are the future of both casual and hardcore gaming.
Cool so we can expect…..
Cosmic Family, My Word Coach, Red Steel, Petz Horsez, Petz Catz, Petz Dogz, and a plethora of other great “waggle” Wii titles to be ported over. I prefer my Ubisoft without waggle thank you.
am i the only person who doesnt like motion controls? i mean it is pretty neat and im glad the ps3 is getting more functionality, i just dont have fun playing that way….after like 5 minutes, im bored and wishing i had a controller in my hand
Motion controls combined with 3D = hack and slash with Virtual figures!?
I think the Wii just gave motion control a bad name. The PS3 will crush the Wii’s motion controlled games!
@curtissheets28
The Wii just barely got non sucky motion controls plus the 3rd parties don’t do well on the wii. I’ve played some arcade games with much more primitive motion sensing that was a ton of fun. You really need to think about not just what you’ve experienced with motion controls, but look at the videos of the motion controls and realize how much innovation be applied.
Of course if you don’t have imagination, or you don’t like physical exertion then these offer nothing for you. For those of us that have energy and imagination, we can see a ton of reasons to get excited.
Example… First person Star Wars game.
Maybe new PoP game will support Motion Controler ?
That’d be weird, but funny.
I’ve got a bad feeling about this-
IF we get the wii treatment, it’s gonna be lumped in with the junk category, and…. noone wants that.
I wish sony would treat the motion controller like trophies, and insist that games feature it’s use (optionally of course, or else you’d be forcing everyone to go out and buy a controller) so it doesn’t get the sixaxis treatment.
hello …
the SONY Sphere is a great addon, but must be treated as a serious device, else will never know the success it deserves.
Ubisoft plans of doing on;y 4-5 games on the PS3 & at least 10 for Natal …it’s not good, it would be better to do a 5/5 for less risk.
i just hope they do bring it to the hardcore world too … yeah MakaiOokami i want a saberlaser fight …
cheers!
@giese095
Amen brother, I agree with everything you said 150%!
TBH, I think everyone’s dissing the ps3 motion controller so quick because they’re eyeballing the Wii too much; Sony’s proven to be a cold and calculated company and I highly doubt they’ll screw this up by flooding the PS3 with nothing but casual games i’m sure there’s some good hardcore games in the works…….
The real thing the PS3 has going for it in terms of motion controls is the fact that it’s a much more powerful machine than the Wii. That means better graphics, yes, but also better physics. What’s a motion controlled game without the physics to make it feel immersive? That’s the problem with the Wii, and why the PS3 just might shine where the Wii failed.
