The Last Remnant PS3 Chances Looking Grim

For those who have been waiting ever so patiently for the PlayStation 3 release of Square Enix’s 2008 JRPG, The Last Remnant, well..you might just be waiting forever.

According to  at Andriasang.com, it seems Square Enix has canceled the PS3 version and isn’t even bothering to tell any they did so. In the newest issue of the “The Square Enix magazine” retail promotional magazine (Volume 13) failed to mention ANYTHING about the PS3 version of The Last Remnant  in the ‘upcoming releases calendar’.

It’s been a rocky road for the PS3 version of the Last Remnant. What was once suppose to be a simultaneous release on both the PS3 and 360, soon became a 360-only release with nothing said about the PS3 versions besides that it would ‘hit later’ in 2008. The situation quickly soured when the Media would ask about the ’delayed’ PS3 version and their questions were answered with silence or no comment.  It looks like the final nail has been put in the coffin, though if the overall Metacritic score is any indication, it seems we didn’t miss much.

What do you guys and gals think? The PS1 and PS2 were known for their abundance of JRPGs/RPGs and this generation of consoles, the 360 has been the current home for gamers RPG fix.  Would you have purchased The last Remnant had it hit the PS3?

Nope. The game is complete garbage from what I’ve seen of it. Square Enix is no longer the king of JRPGs. Atlus, NIS, From Software, Tri-Cresendo, Namco-Bandai can keep em coming!

    Cameron Teague says

it actually was not garbage, the combat system was a lot of fun and the story was not that bad. It was just plagued by horrible frame rate and screen tear

  2. MakaiOokami Says:

Just get it on PC. No big loss really. Not all the games I’m about to list will be out in the next few months, but enough will.

    Star Ocean 4
    Tales of Vesperia
    White Knight Chronicles
    Trinity Universe
    That PSN SJRPG
    Demon’s Souls
    Disgaea 3
    Valkyria Chonicles
    Final Fantasy XIII and XIV
    Cross Edge
    Dragon Age Origins
    Eternal Sonata
    The new Artonelico game
    The new Atelier game
    Free Realms
    DC Universe

There are more than enough JPRGs that most people have been putting off, or will come out within the next few months. Most of these RPGs have gameplay hours in the hundreds. Do you mean to tell me that most of the people clamoring for JRPGs have played over 600 hours of RPGs and are still hurting for more? Disgaea 3 alone is 200 hours or so to platinum, and Demons Souls is at least another 100 most likely.

The console that fixes RPG blues is a PSP. If you don’t get one that’s your own problem but there are enough RPGs between the 2 consoles to fix the woes.

The 360 is most definitely NOT the Home for an RPG fix. It’s the PSP. The reason Last Remnant isn’t coming is because it sold like shit between the 2 platforms of PC and 360. Having maybe 5 or 6 more RPGs than the competing console does NOT make it the Home for RPGs. The reason why some of these games don’t go to the PS3 is because they don’t sell. Part of the reason they don’t sell is because they’re on the 360…

If people bought Valkyria Chronicles it would have received trophy support and may have stayed on the PS3 rather than go to PSP. Fact is most of the people complaining probably don’t even have half the currently released JRPGs.

DON’T ASK FOR MORE RPGS IF YOU’RE NOT BUYING THE ONES ALREADY AVAILABLE! YOU GET MORE GAMES OF A GENRE BY BUYING THOSE GAMES ALREADY IN THE GENRE TO PROVE THAT IT’S A PROFITABLE NICHE’!

    I have Valkyria Chronices +DLC
Demon’s Souls Platinum from my premium edition WHICH I RESERVED!!!!!
    Disgaea 3 + DLC + Platinum
    Cross Edge + some DLC

I do not own Eternal Sonata, I’m doing my part WTF is everyone else doing?

  3. Thomas Williams Says:

Wow Ookami, a Platinum in both Demon’s Souls and Disgaea 3? You da’ man! lol.

I own VC, Demon’s Souls Deluxe Edition, Disgaea 3, and Cross Edge also. Heck, I even imported FF7: ACC on Blu-Ray just to play the demo of FF XIII early. My Wife bought me Dragon Age: Origins for X-mas, so I’m doing my part, lol.

If you ask most people, they feel that the 360 has is the current king of next-gen RPGs. Mass Effect, The Lost Odd., Infinite Undiscovery, Blue Dragon, etc. Heck..even though Tales of Vesperia is out on the PS3 in Japan, it’s not out here and Namco Bandai hasn’t even commented on a US release for it. What up wit’ dat?

With the list you posted above it looks like next year is going to be full of quality RPGs for the PS3. Can’t wait!

  4. MakaiOokami Says:

The PC gets more RPGs than the 360 though. The difference in the number of PS3 and 360 RPGs is negligible.

There is a very small difference of like 8 maybe 10 games between the 2 consoles in RPGs. MANY of which are reviewed very poorly. I mean the console had a 1 year headstart. That doesn’t make it the king of RPGs. We’re still in year 3. There’s at least 7 more years for the PS3 to claim the throne as the King of RPGs. The 360 is in its 4th year and is already being maxed out and topped out.

I really hate hearing the 360 as the King of RPGs because it’s got so much crap. I don’t want Dragon Ball like characters from Blue Dragon, Last Remnant is better on PC, Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia, and Star Ocean 4 all have extra dungeons, characters, and more including Japanese Language options.

The 360 is the king of rushing. The RPGs are rushed and buggy, the system was rushed and RROD’d like crazy, and people are rushing to call it the king of RPGs because it has a negligible increase in quantity not quality.

If the 360 is king of the RPGs then why are they even bothering to release them on the PS3? It’s because they don’t sell well because the PS3 just has to hit its groove. Were people begging for PS2 RPGs this much back when it was first released? So many of those first releases were HORRIBLE quality. I’ll wait a bit longer because it’s worth waiting to continue playing the higher quality RPGs. Not just the RPGs that are out. The Wii has more better quality RPGs than the 360 does in its Virtual Console Catalogue.

  5. Timewarp Says:

Yeah! Because the 360’s getting it! Jokes if it really does suck then i don’t want it. I want to steal halo from under microsoft’s nose after they took MGS from us though.

  6. Danicus Says:

SE sure needs some tutoring in customer-centric thinking. They’ve f**ked the dog so much on this one, I have no interest in buying it anymore anyways. Since they don’t care, I don’t care.

I loved Squaresoft. I do NOT love SE.

First SE, then Tiger Woods. What is the world coming to?

  7. MakaiOokami Says:

Timewarp… they NEVER stole MGS from us.

The first games were on the Nintendo systems. Many of the games were ported onto the Gamecube and Xbox. There people go once again with entirely half baked ideas that games which were often on multiple plaforms were stolen from Sony…

Final Fantasy was never a Playstation Exclusive
Metal Gear was never a Playstation Exclusive (that’s why there was even an iphone game)

People need to quit bitching about exclusives that were never such.

  8. xST-ANGERx Says:

Woohoo! 1 less RPG on the PS3 is gd news to me.

    THEY’RE RUBBISH- END OF STORY!

  9. Darth_Xehanort Says:

If you want me to hate you, just try to destroy gaming like xST-ANGERx is doing. It works like a charm.

  10. UberSilenus Says:

With Final Fantasy XIII and XIV, Star Ocean Four, and Dragon Age : Origins, I could care less. Even when I did think it was coming out for the PS3 I wasn’t sure about it. But just for ST-Anger, the gaming industry wouldn’t have survived if it wasn’t for companies like Eidos, SquareSoft, and Activision with their role playing games. They lit up our lives with imagination, three dimensional characters, and beautiful (although pixelated) backgrounds. If it wasn’t for them then the industry would have never invested in the current generation of consoles. And then who’d be left in the dark?

  11. joinsideke Says:

    Darth Xehanort,
you might be the only one here who’s level headed.

Calm down makai, your frantic ranting is tedious to read through to sift out any remnants of logic.

Speaking of remnants, and to the actual point of this article, I am actually pretty upset to not be getting this. This and WKC were the two JRPG’s i was looking forward to next. The release trailer for this game was astounding. RIP Last Remnant.

  12. » The Last Remnant May Breathe Life on PS3 Says:

[...] The Last Remnant has been one of a select few role-playing games for the Xbox 360 and PC in recent years. Created by Square Enix, the title utilizes a real-time combat system as well as quicktime events to deliver a unique blend of RPG and action elements. Thankfully, it seems that the title might be coming to the PlayStation 3 afterall. Amazon.com has listed The Last Remnant as coming to the PlayStation 3 platform. While this isn’t a confirmation of the title coming to the PS3, the rumors of a port have been heavy for months now. Although sales have been sour for The Last Remnant, Demon’s Souls has proved that JRPGs have a safe home on the PlayStation 3. [...]
